Interviews About Albums: Möebius - Kryptomnesia (2024)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Chilean Progressive Rock band Möebius to ask questions about their album, "Kryptomnesia".

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

Kryptomnesia is Möebius' sophomore concept album that tells the story of the Technomancer, a man who once was part of an organization called The Hand and developed a program called 'Labyrinth´. This program mutated its mission to a point where it fed solely on greed, making all participants in it compete with themselves and consume until they die. The album tells the story of a closed loop where the Technomancer tries to stop The Hand in order to make things right, but it seems that technology and greed are too strong to even make a difference.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

Kryptomnesia comes from the Greek word "Criptomnesia", which means a "forgotten truth". We mean to use it as the Technomancer is eternally battling to make a difference inside Labyrinth, to only make a reboot to begin again. The whole album has this Greek aesthetic, from The Labyrinth (Nemea) to song names: Wings of Daedalus, Fields of Asphodel, and Pseudo-Logoi (Lies in greek).

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

The songs were mainly composed by Felipe Herrera (bass), with the exception of Electric Chair and Kryptomnesia which were composed by Sebastián Herrera.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

We would pick Hell's Pawn, we think it closes the album in such a way that brings tears to our eyes and literally goosebumps.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?

Society may as well be too immersed in this point of singularity where technology combined with greed will leave us powerless to do anything about it if it turns against us.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

We love the lyrics in "Into The Grave". This song is a threat on behalf of The Hand, that makes sure the Technomancer knows he won't succeed in his mission:

"I, won't let you escape from the fate of this
World, that makes us compete with ourselves
And pushing us into the grave"

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

Musically this album was influenced by a vast array of bands, from Nine Inch Nails to Dream Theater, going through some Rush, Primus, Avenged Sevenfold, Disturbed, Coheed and Cambria, and Sikth, among others. We are really excited to hear from fans who like different songs because it is similar to a band they like, it really hits the spot for us.

8. Something to add?

We want to thank everyone who has listened to this album until now, and are very excited to tour this from November onwards in Chile and abroad, hope to see everyone sometime in the next year!
