Interviews About Albums: Neurasty - Identity Collapse (2024)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Italian Metal band Neurasty to ask questions about their album, "Identity Collapse".

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

Identity Collapse is the result of an experiment that evolved over six years, where the diverse cultures and styles of each band member, both past and present, converged in the arrangements you can hear on the album.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

Identity Collapse addresses a universal theme: the reaction to and consequences of trauma on the human being in all its nuances, for better or worse. These eight tracks illustrate the band's identity; the name was chosen after an introspective study of the theme of the human psyche.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

Regarding composition, the main writer is our guitarist Gabriele, supported by our bassist Silvio. The arrangements are then reviewed by the whole band, with each member contributing creatively with their instrument. Finally, the vocal lines and lyrics have been crafted by Viviana since she joined, while previously they were handled by former vocalist Daniela Dato.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

The response has evolved over time, but we can now firmly say that the track that best represents us is Cruel Instinct. It has defined the identity of our current sound and set the foundation for our next album.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what is it?

Identity Collapse, as the name suggests, conveys the message of not feeling inadequate in a world that inherently makes us lose our identity. Our society does not lay solid foundations for us as human beings but creates cracks in the world of reality and the world of values.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

The strongest and most gruesome lyrics, sometimes deliberately macabre, that we love the most are CruelInstinct and Burst In Me. That's why we chose them as singles. These lyrics represent us, delve into our deepest soul, and release a sort of malaise that we too often have to keep inside. Writing a lyric is like exorcising an event or a fear; it allows us to release the demon within.

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

For the composition of the album, there were many influences and inspirations. As mentioned earlier, the initial idea was to create a personal sound by mixing Gabriele's extreme metal style with Silvio's more modern approach to music. Each of us draws inspiration from different bands, sometimes vastly different from each other, but turning this into a strength rather than a point of contention. In recent years, we've met and shared the stage with many bands, forming friendships with many of them, and learning something from each, both positive and negative. For this, we thank them all. We thank our families, all our friends, and everyone who listens to us, as they have been a great force in realizing this album.

8. Something to add?

What can we say? The album has just been released on all digital platforms via Volcano Records, so you can listen to it and let us know what you think. Additionally, we are planning dates to support Identity Collapse and starting to put together the first ideas for the next album. See you around on social media.
