Interviews About Albums: The Willful Deaf - The End Of The Sun (2024)

In this new interview, we sat down with the British Alternative Psychedelic Rock band The Willful Deaf to ask questions about their album, "The End Of The Sun".

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

It is my first release in a while, and I am very excited to get something out there. Although I think it is better to come in the next year, as I have several releases planned.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

"The End of the Sun" refers to the spirit of youth, the excitement about your life ahead, and infinite possibilities, only to be halted by a draft into the military and the perils and horrors of war. The song is a little about my late granddad's experiences.

3. Who is the composer of the CD/EP?

I composed everything on this release.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

That is a hard question. One song I always keep coming back to is "Vitamin C" by CAN. I love the rhythm and arrangement, but honestly, I can't really describe why I like it, I just do.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is, what is it?

The other track on the release, "Beat the Bomb," is partly inspired by "The Stairs" by Nikos Kavvadias. Although the thoughts are adapted and refer to people who work in the weapon industry, trading their souls and morals for wealth and personal gain, particularly the US, UK, and other European actors selling weapons to Israel to effectively blow up children in Palestine.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

No.

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Musically, or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

My main inspiration was my baby daughter. After struggling for many years to find time and headspace to do music, my paternity leave freed my mind. Playing and singing to her gave me a lot of inspiration, and I rediscovered my passion for writing music.
