Interviews: Dead7

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metalcore band Dead7 from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

After we wrote our first 4 singles, we had a group discussion on what we thought the name should be. We really liked the idea of twenty7 because three of us were about to turn 27; we wanted to pay homage to the 27 clubs. When we were doing more research on the 27 Club, we came across a picture of members of the 27 Club. The first Google image had 7 of the members from the 27 clubs, so that solidified the name dead7.

2. Why did you want to play metalcore?

We all love the energy, passion, and emotion that goes into metalcore music. Live shows were also a big factor for us. We absolutely love the energy you see at a metalcore show, both from the band and the fans. There’s a certain vibe at a metalcore show that you don’t quite get at a show for a different genre.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Jason, Zach, and Dexter were all on the same football team in high school. Tim met Zach and Jason in the summer of 2018, they decided to have a jam sesh together. That’s when they decided they wanted to try and form a band together. In early 2021, Dexter joined the band and then asked his former bandmate Stephen to join the band at the time. Shortly after Stephen joined, we started to work on developing dead7.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Jason - Breaking Benjamin

Dexter - Killswitch Engage

Stephen - Invent Animate

Zach - Chevelle Tim - In Flames

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Our main focus on writing songs is to convey strong feelings and emotions that people face. Whether it’s through an angry or somber perspective, we want to make music that we love and hope people can connect with on some level.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was at the Old Rock House in St. Louis. We opened for Gideon, Left to Suffer, Fox Lake, and No Cure.

7. Where would you like to play?

We’d love to play more festivals around the country. We had the chance to play Pointfest in St. Louis last year and are playing Upheavel Fest in Michigan in July.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

One band that would be awesome to have a feature from would be Don Broco. We as a band just love their music.

9. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

No, none of us really have. The biggest thing to combat that is to make sure you’re practicing on your own time and then making sure to rehearse like it’s a show. If you’re prepared then there’s no need to be nervous, just go show the crowd what you’ve got.

10. What bands have inspired you the most?

Bands that we’ve been inspired by a lot, especially during the writing process, have been Loathe and Bad Omens. They have a great atmosphere and so much diversity in their sound. We also love bands like ten56. that really dive into the darker parts of life that people don’t like to talk about.

11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We are still a relatively new band so we haven’t had too many wild interactions with our fans yet.

12. What do you think of your fans?

We absolutely love all of the Unwanted. Anytime someone comes up and talks to us about what our music means to them or even just to tell us they like it makes our day. We want everyone to feel safe and understood, anyone who’s ever felt unwanted or unwelcome in life is our family; we welcome them in with open arms.

13. What do you think of our site?

We really like the diversity of metalcore bands on your site. We’re honored to be included in all of the different bands you guys promote.

14. Something to add?

Thanks for checking out our newest release! It really means a lot. Also, we are playing Upheavel Festival in Michigan and we’ll be playing the St. Louis date for the Summer Slaughter tour.
