Interviews: Irian Darkwood
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Metal/Rock artist Irian Darkwood from Canada. Check out the interview and follow the artist on her FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the artist name, you plan it or come out just like that?
Irian Darkwood was a name I used in Dungeons and Dragons, I thought it was unique, and Darkwood
kinda matches the genre of music I sing, so I used that
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
I found it’s the genre my voice is best suited for and that it suits my lyric and personality gest
3. Your favourite band?
I like a lot of the 80’s/90’s bands, but, Skid Row is one of my top picks
4. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
I take my lyrics from personal experiences, feelings, and events around me
5. Where was your last gig?
I’m new to the scene, so I’m hoping to get out live soon
6. Where would you like to perform?
There’s a big local place, here in Halifax Nova Scotia, Canada called Scotia Bank Centre where some
really big names have played, but, yeah, big stages like Madison Square Gardens too are places I would
love to be able to play someday
7. Whom would you like to perform with?
I really want to perform with Lizzy Hale
8. Whom not?
Hard to say, everyone can be good to play with ha
9. Have you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
A lot of people would never guess that I have pretty severe anxiety, I started with karaoke to try to help
the nerves I feel, experience in front of people helps, but I still always feel really nervous before doing
live singing... I help myself by just focusing on on what I am doing and doing my best, sometimes I focus
on one person at a time and kind of ‘sing’ to them too.
10. What bands have inspired you the most?
I really love the 80’s and 90’s bands like Metallica, Skid Row, Motley Crue and Evanescence
11. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Well once, I sat down after singing, and someone sat beside me and I was like ‘Hello’, and they started
talking and talking.. they were a little intoxicated haha, it was cool until he said I had pretty hair and could
he touch it. I said ‘Thank you fir the compliment, but I’m going to have to say no on that one’ haha
12. What do you think of your fans?
I love them, I would not be here if it wasn’t for them and I wouldn’t be able to do what I love without
their support!
