Interviews: My Epic

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Hard Rock band My Epic from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

See next question

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

For both the above questions. It was a bit before “epic” became a catchphrase. Epic was the best way to describe the dynamic range we wanted in the sound. One of our members suggested “My Epic” and after getting a shortlist we voted and I lost🤣 But in the end, we leaned into it. We’ve never thought much about genre but just wanted to follow the sounds and ideas that provoke and inspire us.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Of the other original members our drummer is my little brother and our other guitarist has been one of my best friends since I was 14. We have had some member changes over the years but no one ever left on bad terms and we are fortunate to all remain close friends.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Oh dang! That’s a tough one. But a handful of the bands we all agree on would be The Deftones, Mew, Sigur Ros, and The Smashing Pumpkins.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

The best and worst, and highs and lows, the beauty and pain of life itself. Everything! Songs are one of the ways we process all of life.

6. Where was your last gig?

We have mainly been in production this year but we played some shows last summer and have some festivals coming up in July and October.

7. Where would you like to act?

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

When it comes to features we would love to collaborate with anyone who makes sense for the song and concept. We have done a few fun ones in the past but it’s more about serving the song.

9. Whom not?

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

For sure. It might not be stage fright as such. When I feel like I’m not as prepared as I’d like to but even when I am I still get nervous, excited energy. My biggest tip would be to prepare twice as hard and as long as you think and then trust the work you have put in. No one is good at first and you can’t be awesome until you’ve gotten started. So get in the game and give yourself time to grow into your potential. Gametime does feel totally different than practice, so practice hard and play as much as possible!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Mostly the ones who fought hard to find their own artistic voice and cared more about the music than celebrity. We really appreciate the artists who kept evolving over time and were committed to and in love with the creative process of pushing for truth in their work.

12. What do you think of your fans?

For both the above questions. Our fans are lovely, incredibly thoughtful, and kind. Sometimes they think they are asking for weird things but it’s usually just that they want to connect and talk. I can’t think of anything weird. It means so much to us that we have connected over the music and we love when we get to connect to them.

13. What do you think of our site?

We think anyone who loves music and shares that love with others RULEZ! Keep it up!

14. Something to add?

Loriella comes out June 28th- we are super stoked to share these songs with people!
