Interviews: Void King

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Stoner Metal/Doom Metal band Void King from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

The name for the band is an evolution of some things and the way they were said. The band started out as "THEREISNOTHING", in its earliest of days. But once we replaced our first bass player, some 9 years ago or so, we thought it best to move on to something else. Void King is the name that we all felt best represented what we were trying to do with this band.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

The aim of this band was to drink beer and have fun. The "genre" was what came of that. There was no particular goal for a sound, as it were. Void King is the amalgamation of all of our influences, a bunch of beer, and a lifetime of experiences together.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Tommy and Dog have known one another for going on 40 years. Chris and Tommy are brothers. And we all knew Jason for about 30 years before the band got together. He was the guy that we all used to watch when we went to see shows.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Derek - Metallica

Chris - Dillinger Escape Plan

Jason - Faith No More

Tommy - Alice in Chains

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

It depends on the song. Sometimes it's a dream. Sometimes it comes from nothing. Sometimes it's a jam that turns into a song. For the new record, it is based on a night terror that Tommy had, which ended up being more of a philosophical change of mind.

6. Where was your last gig?

We shared the stage with the band Whores, and our friends Veilcaste, here in Indianapolis.

7. Where would you like to act?

We want to get back over to Europe and play Italy, Croatia, Turkiye, etc.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

I would love for us to go on the road with Monolord.

9. Whom not?

I dunno. I guess I would have to say any band that didn't want us there? We will play with anyone.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Of course. The only thing to do is to focus on the music itself.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Tommy - I listen to a wide variety of music. AC/DC was the band that got me into metal. From there, Derek exposed me to the band Helmet. The list is wide and varied. Nirvana, black sabbath, windhand, run the jewels, Kendrick Lamar, Nails, etc. I don't listen to any genre. There's a lot of great music to be inspired by.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We had a fan propose to his partner at one of our shows. That was pretty fantastic.

13. What do you think of your fans?

It's like a cult, and that was the point. The more the better.

14. What do you think of our site?

Anytime someone is writing about metal, it is a good thing.

15. Something to add?

Thanks for asking us to do this. Thank you to Argonauta Records for taking the risk to put out our next album. Thanks to anyone who has taken the time to listen to our music or come to a show.
