Behind The Tracks: InTheosis - Mysteria (Single) (2024)

Mysteria is the first song we ever wrote together.

 

It’s an alternative metal track that draws upon djenty riffs, metric modulation, a big chorus and very dynamic changes between sections to try and communicate the extreme barrage of emotions that accompany living with anxiety. One of the main metaphors used is drowning, being swept under the waves of panic.

 

However, there’s also an element of hope as the protagonist trusts that “light” will come and bring peace and clarity amidst the chaos.

 

I (Jon) was listening to a lot of Opeth and Meshuggah when writing the instrumental arrangements and wanted the extreme contrast between something you’d hear on Damnation - perhaps Opeth’s gentlest album to date - and the down-tuned chuggs from Meshuggah’s catalogue. It took its own course as art so often does but we felt really happy with the result.
