Interviews About Albums: Along Came A Spider - The Fall (2024)

In this new interview, we sat down with the American Metalcore band Along Came A Spider to ask questions about their album, "The Fall".

1. What can you say about this new EP?

“The Fall” was a chance for us as a band to break away from any outside influences and make a record that is entirely ourselves. Bruises and all. We decided to produce the record ourselves. We took what we learned from the incredible producer we collaborated with on “Blackhole”, Evan Mckeever, and our older sound of fusing genres together to create what we hope is a purely ACAS record.

2. What is the meaning of the EP?

It’s about the slow and seemingly enticing descent into Hell. Whatever that means to you. For me, it was a toxic and abusive relationship. Each song represents a place in the process of breaking down your own boundaries, defensive walls, self-respect, self-worth, self-esteem, principles, values, and needs for a temperamental love and connection.

3. Which one is the composer of the EP?

We’re always writing as a group and exchanging ideas constantly. Most of the time, I write the lyrics, concepts, and vocal parts while the boys create the instrumental parts. Each person is responsible for their instrument. They’ll take their time structuring and arranging the song before I usually touch it. Once the instrumental is finished it's sent to me and I add the vocals. From there, we go back and forth to be sure nothing needs to be changed and everyone’s satisfied with each part. I feel lucky the guys let me explore whatever idea I have for a song and I trust them entirely to write catchy, heavy, and moody music for me to yell over.

4. If you had to pick one song, which would it be?

That’s difficult! Since this EP is particularly personal to me and based on a specific experience I went through it’s hard for me to narrow one down out of the six tracks. It’s designed to tell a story in a way so the songs hopefully flow into each other. If I had to choose I’ll just say “The Fall” which opens the record and sets off the entire story.

5. Is there a special message? What is it?

The EP is essentially a warning to myself and people that abuse can be wrapped in a loving package. Finding love is difficult and I understand wanting to trust someone and give yourself over to someone unconditionally but we all have to be careful who we give our time, love, secrets, passions, and energy to. Don’t stop trying though. Love is worth it if you can find it.

6. Lyrics you’d like to share?

I’ll share the lyrics that end the EP and I think encapsulate the general theme.

“I destroy myself
To stay with you in Hell Lets destroy ourselves Is this love?
I can’t tell”

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Musically, friends, family, someone you’d love to thank personally?

Musically we really wore our hearts on our sleeves for this record. We have some modern inspirations like Sleep Token, the more pop/metal blend of Bring Me The Horizon, and Loathe. But we also were heavily inspired by bands we grew up on like Chevelle, Linkin’ Park, Every Time I Die, and My Chemical Romance. As for the lyrics, I would absolutely not like to thank the person that inspired them. I’ll say thank you to my bandmates for allowing me to use our music as an outlet and my friends and family for supporting the band and myself in difficult times. And a huge shout out and thank you to Scooter Allen who mixed and mastered this record. He really brought it to life.

8. Something to add?

Respect and love yourself. Be firm on your boundaries. Don’t let someone you love dictate if you’re worthy or not. Thanks for your time and I hope you enjoy “The Fall”!
