Interviews About Albums: Road Syndicate - A Shot Of Rock 'N' Roll (2024)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Italian Rock 'N' Roll band Road Syndicate to ask questions about their new album, "A Shot Of Rock 'N' Roll".

1. What can you say about this new CD?

Fab: It's a restart, a new beginning for the band. After the pandemic, we needed more inspiration and had some problems with the lineup.

Larry: It’s like a shot of energy for the band, an injection of fresh fuel in the tank.

2. What is the meaning of the CD name?

Both: The album was originally going to be titled “Here Comes The Band”

Then we thought it was too personal a song, which told of our new beginning.

While “A Shot Of R'n'R” was the perfect manifesto of the spirit of our music.

A declaration of intent of what we have always been, on stage and in ordinary life

3. Which one is the composer of the EP?

Fab: There was not a single author or composer on this album

The whole band was involved in the writing workflow.

The only exception concerns the work on writing the lyrics which has always been done by Larry (the singer and frontman of the band)

Larry: It’s amazing to write togheter and put each other’s style in reviving some old ideas left in the closets...

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

Both: Each of us has his favorite song.

“Here Comes The Band” is probably the perfect snapshot of the band's state of mind at the moment: It’s a song written in less than one hour, in the rehearsal room, playing at full volume. “Holy Ground” and “Smiling' Devil” are also something new compared to past records, something fresh and funny.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what is it?

Fab: Yes: there is an underlying message that pervades the entire album. With the pandemic, we miss our old manager and two of our mentors from when we were young. The message of the entire CD is "live your life with joy. enjoy every day as if it were your last. Be always positive"

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

Both: Yes, of course!

The lyrics to "I'm Alive" and "The Fighter"

I´m Alive lyrics:

(music by Lanciotti-Ruggiero
Lyrics by Cortoni)

I USED TO BE A RESTLESS SOUL
SEARCHING FOR A PLACE TO GO
NO ONE SHOWED ME THE STARTING LINE
NOW THEY SAY I’M OUT OF TIME
BUT I KEEP ON SINGING
KEEP ON DANCING
WITH MY BIG OLD SMILE
I AM ON MY FEET
I STILL ENJOY THE RIDE

HEY THERE
I’M ALIVE AND I AM FINE
HEY THERE
NOW IT’S TIME FOR ME TO SHINE

I’VE BEEN A MISFIT FOR SO LONG
IN A MIDDLE OF A THOUSEND WORLDS
SOMBODY USED ME AND THREW ME AWAY
WHEN THEY HAD THEIR SONGS TO PLAY
BUT I KEEP ON SINGING
KEEP ON PLAYING ‘TILL MY FINGERS BLEED
NO MORE ON MY OWN
I’VE GOT MY SONGS TO SING
HEY THERE
I’M ALIVE AND I AM FINE
HEY THERE
NOW IT’S TIME FOR ME TO SHINE

I USED TO BE THE REBEL KIND
I GUESS I’LL NEVER CHANGE MY MIND
MY HERT’S STILL BEATING
MY FINGERS BLEEDING
BUT I HAVE GOT
ONE MORE SONG TO SING

The Fighter lyrics:

(Words & music by Cortoni)

WHAT IS LEFT OF ME
AT THE END OF THE DAY
AFTER ALL I’VE DONE?
WHAT IS LEFT OF ME
IN THE MOONLIGHT
AFTER ALL THE FIGHTS?
TAPE AROUND MY FINGERS
BLOOD OVER MY HANDS

WHAT IS LEFT OF ME
IN THE MORNING LIGHT
AFTER ALL THE SLEEPLESS NIGHTS?
WHAT IS LEFT OF ME
WHEN I TURN ON THE LIGHTS
OVER MY WOLE LIFE?
A SMILE ON MY FACE
THE BLOOD IN MY VEINS

BABY I’M A FIGHTER
THIS IS WHAT I AM
I WASN’T BORN IN HEAVEN
BUT I FIGHT MY WAY THERE
WITH MY HANDS
WITH MY BARE HANDS

NOTHING’S LEFTO FOR ME
IN THAT FORGOTTEN PLACE
WERE I WAS BORN AND RAISED
NOTHING FOR ME
BUT WHAT I’VE BUILT
FIGHTING JUST TO BE ME
MY HANDS ARE ALL I HAVE
I USED ‘EM TO BE FREE

BABY I’M A FIGHTER
THIS IS WHAT I AM
I WASN’T BORN IN HEAVEN
BUT I FIGHT MY WAY THERE
WITH MY HANDS
WITH MY BARE HANDS

WHAT IS LEFT OF ME
AT THE END OF THE DAY
AFTER ALL THE FIGHTS?

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

Larry: Like any other lyric I Wrote in the past, the inspiration came from everywhere: friends, family, personal experiences, news from the world, stories someone else told me, or stories of fantasy...

For example, “The Fighter” and “I’m Alive” are very personal stories, while “Before the Morning“ is a song dedicated to our love for Rome at night.

”Shot of R’n’R” is about our need for music and fun...

8. Something to add?

Both: Thank you for this wonderful interview. Greetings to all readers of Breathing The Core! We will always do our best for the audience, on stage, and in the studio. We will be back on tour soon. Long live R'n'R!
