Interviews About Albums: Still Wave - A Broken Heart Makes An Inner Constellation (2024)
In this new interview, we sat down with the Italian Post-Black Metal/Doomgaze band Still Wave to ask questions about their album, "A Broken Heart Makes An Inner Constellation".
1. What can you say about this new CD?
It’s our first release and it’s called “A broken heart makes an inner constellation”. We worked a lot
on every single sound, melody, vocal line, and word. It sounds as it should, it’s us. It’s a perfect picture.
Our main intention is to play hymns of desperate beauty, our so-called “swansongs for lovers”.
2. What is the meaning of the CD name?
It is about trying to see a broken heart as a desperately beautiful constellation inside, a sort of way
to see some good in the deep well of a mysterious and unknown pain with no name.
3. Which one is the composer of the CD?
The main music songwriters have been Luca Fois (guitarist) and Eliana Marino (ex keyboardist)
with contributions and addictions by the rest of the band. The concept, melodies, and lyrics are mine.
4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?
Maybe “Near Distant”, our second single (and video), because it contains all the elements of our
sound: pop melodies, epic vocals, loud guitar riffs, and a harsh black metal vertigo.
5. Is there a special message in this CD? If there is what is it?
The album is a sort of concept about being alone in a wrong relationship and about trying to find
some good in this deep well of necessary pain in which we drown when it ends: it is beautiful to
love, the end just may happen but the one in love is always the best version of us.
6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?
“In an endless wonder / I cry/ In the echo of a smile”.
7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family,
someone you'd love to thank especially?
Our only inspiration is deep introspection, not always conscious, about distorted guitars,
melancholy, abandoned buildings, pop melodies, love, effects/pedals, sunsets, wires, break-ups, sci-fi, suburbia, fear of dying, blast beats, shyness, and your broken heart.
We love Alcest, Katatonia, The Smiths, Paradise Lost, Slowdive, Insomnium, The Cure, Tears for
Fears, Placebo, and NIN.
We’d love to thank Eliana for the memories and the music she played with us.
8. Something to add?
Listen to us. Sing along, hold your heart, and smile when you fall.
