Interviews About Albums: YAKI DAH - 16 Miles To Merthyr (2024)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Alternative Rock band YAKI DAH to ask questions about their new album, "16 Miles To Merthyr".

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

This EP is very special to us as it represents our first collection of songs developed to their fullest potential, incorporating various styles, genres, and influences. We believe there's something in it for everyone, showcasing our diversity and creativity.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

The EP title, "16 Miles to Merthyr," holds significant meaning as it pays homage to our Welsh heritage. The song "16 Miles to Merthyr" reflects our experiences and observations, contrasting the reality of after-parties with their portrayal in movies, all set against the backdrop of the beautiful Welsh valleys.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

Every band member has contributed to the writing of the songs. Christian has crafted all the lyrics, Jack Lee brings in sick guitar riffs, James adds slick bass lines, and Fran injects flair on the drums, together creating the unique sound of our songs.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

Personally, I'd pick "Goth Girl." It's a very special song co-written by Jack Lee and me, telling the story of a guy in love with a goth girl who happens to be a witch. I believe it's our most commercially appealing song.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is, what is it?

The special message of this EP is the diversity of the songs. For instance, "You, Me and Lee" is a happy, danceable track, while "Vampire" deals with the theme of addiction, showcasing a lot of twists and turns. Each song tells its own unique story.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

I'd like to share some lyrics from "Hills in the Night," as they resonate deeply with me, and feel like I've found salvation in them:

"You're stuck in the middle because I set off a missile that exploded from inside.
When you heard the thunder as my heart went under, you were straight there on the frontline.

Like a guiding angel from Mother Earth's creation that tells me love's divine,
And handed the key that set me free from the chains that imprisoned my life."

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

There have been numerous inspirations for this album, including life's ups and downs and trials, which provide great stories for songwriting. I'd like to thank my friends and family for their unwavering support and for attending our shows. Special thanks to our manager, Victoria, for her invaluable support and guidance.

8. Something to add?

We are excited to announce our EP launch at Sin City in Swansea on the 16th of August. Please come down and show your support. Also, we'd like to add a massive thank you to Breathing the Core for this great interview, we love what you do and speak soon!
