Interviews: DETERIOROT

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Death Metal band DETERIOROT from the USA. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

The band name was originally Mortuary in 1988 and by the end of 1989 we had found out about a band from Mexico with the name Mortuary so we decided we needed a name that was unique in order to not have the same issue again we needed a name that is a made up word so we fused the word Deteriorate and wanted to change the rate to ROT instead at the end of the name. So it would be unique to us and not taken. For the time as well we can say we are the first band to have the end of their name as Rot as there were many to follow this trend. So many bands now have Rot at the end like Necrot Witchrot, Cerebral Rot, Jungle Rot, and the list seems to be endless but we are the first Death Metal band to do it.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

This genre didn't really exist like the way we know it today. Death Metal was a very grey area term in the mid 80's. We were just playing heavy music influenced by early Heavy Metal bands like Black Sabbath, Motorhead, Venom, Celtic Frost, Metallica, and Slayer.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

The bad was formed by me placing advertisements in music newspapers.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Our drummer James answered Megadeth and Morbid Angel. For "Paul - guitar/vocals" I would say Judas Priest and the first 3 Metallica Albums. I didn't get a response from the rest of the band

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

All songs really to me are just inspired by mood and feelings. It's just a natural process.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was as the Headliner for Carolina Terror Fest in Spartanburg, SC (USA 

7. Where would you like to act?

We have been to Europe for tours so I would like to go to Asia, maybe Indonesia or Japan. We have had some plans for Mexico and South America

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

It doesn't really matter to me, but we prefer to Headline. Even if it's just a smaller Underground Tour. We like to know our show is earned and it's ours vs playing a show but it's really someone else's audience.

9. Whom not?

No MetalCore. Just keep it Underground Death Metal

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

I couldn't answer that because playing live is natural, normal, and enjoyable for me since I've been playing live since 1988 when I was 14 years old so I don't even know what is frightful about it. Sorry.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Early 70's, 80's - Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Motorhead, Iron Maiden, Venom, Metallica, Slayer, Celtic Frost, Sodom. Then later on Death, Autopsy, Carcass, Entombed, Abhorrence (Fin) Amorphis (Privilege of Evil era)

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

To come to sleep with her while her husband was standing there next to her.

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are very passionate and very excited about Death Metal and most are extreme collectors of physical format. Very grateful for their dedication

14. What do you think of our site?

It's new to me so I'm just getting to know it
