Interviews: Lethal Technology

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Industrial Metal/Progressive Death Metal band Lethal Technology from Switzerland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or come out just like that?

I spent a while searching for a name, but I can't really say that it was planned. I wanted the name to portray the band's two main styles, which are industrial metal and death metal — lethal for death and technology for industrial.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I wanted to experiment with something different from more traditional styles. Metal's musical palette is extremely large, so why would we be content to remain confined to only one style? So I wanted to mix three of them: brutal death metal with industrial metal and progressive metal, my three favorite styles.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

About the new line-up, I had already known Michaël for a long time. We had played together in a death metal band named Slicer. The other new members were recruited through online offers.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Our male vocalist Benjamin likes Slipknot; our female vocalist Yu hasn't been into metal for a long time, but she is a fan of Electric Callboy; the lead guitarist Fabrice loves Dream Theater; Michaël likes Children of Bodom; our drummer Loris is a fan of Persefone. Personally, I am a big fan of Devin Townsend and Strapping Young Lad.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I get inspiration from post-apocalyptic and futuristic fictional universes, such as Mad Max, Terminator, The Matrix, Robocop (which inspired the song Steel Body), and Star Wars (the inspiration behind the song Iron and Ice)... mostly movies, but also video games, for example, Fallout or DooM.

6. Where was your last gig?

It took place on April 7th of 2023, at Manoir Pub, in the town of Saint-Maurice, Valais, Switzerland. We shared the stage with Askara, from Basel, Switzerland, and Aephanemer, from Toulouse, France. It was Yu's first show with us and she really nailed it! It was also the last with the old line-up, our former singers Jade and Sofiane and bass player Julien having left the band after.

7. Where would you like to act?

My dream would be to play at Madison Square Garden in New York City because I am a huge supporter of The New York Rangers! Otherwise, if we have to be more down to earth, I'd like to play at The Docks in Lausanne, Switzerland, or at Z7 in Pratteln, Switzerland. The latter is Switzerland's biggest place for metal shows, which hosts 150 events a year and has an accommodation capacity of 1600 people!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

We would love to open for Devin Townsend, of course! Also for Fear Factory and Metallica. Being personally a longtime fan of Pantera since the day I saw the band in concert almost 25 years ago, I would also love to share a stage with them.

9. Whom not?

We are quite open-minded about the bands with whom we share the stage, as long as the members are nice; there's not a particular one we would refuse to play with. Except maybe Megadeth, because Dave Mustaine is known to be difficult to work with...

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

It happens before every show, for all of us! What I would advise for beginners is to simply focus on immersing themselves in the atmosphere and making the most of the audience's power and drive.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

For songwriting on the album, I'd say Strapping Young Lad, Fear Factory, Devin Townsend; for the death metal parts, it would be Cannibal Corpse. I also took great inspiration from Genesis.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Once, a fan asked for a signed picture to be sent to him via email. That seemed kinda weird to us, on the one hand, because we are a small band, on the other hand, we would have thought he would have asked for a postal shipment!

13. What do you think of your fans?

They are metalheads coming from all horizons and who like to discover new things and styles. Very open-minded!

14. What do you think of our site?

I took a look at your site, and I find it well made: it has good visuals and good ergonomy. Moreover, I like the variety of styles that are represented, especially weird ones such as "Nintendocore", and the fact that it allows viewers to discover bands from countries all over the world!

15. Something to add?

Thank you for this interview and your interest, and thanks in advance to the readers!
