Interviews: Orpheus Omega

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Melodic Death Metal band Orpheus Omega from Australia. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

Matt actually came up with the name. We wanted something both 'classy' but still obviously metal-sounding. Matt came across the famous Greek mythology regarding how Orpheus wooed the creature Ceberus with his harp and we thought this was the perfect dichotomy of delicate and dangerous elements in the story that reflected the chaos in the music quite well.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

After falling in love with bands like Children Of Bodom, Dark Tranquillity, In Flames, etc, it felt natural to play Melodic Death Metal. It was such a broad brush genre that just allowed for and included SO much nuance and specificity while also welcoming influence from so many different genres of music, not just metal.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Matt and I are brothers, so I've known him for too long haha. But all the original members were friends or knew each other from the scene in one way or another and when we decided to start this band, it was the perfect opportunity to finally play in a band together.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

My favorite band is a hard one, we all love SO much different music and are passionate about all the bands we love so to narrow it down to 1 is a hard task. But a few of our favorites would have to be, Trivium, Children Of Bodom, In Flames, Voyager, Karnivool, Dream Theater, etc.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Music in general is just SO energizing and fulfilling. Not every song makes it out as a release, but the PROCESS of writing music is just so fulfilling. Being able to convert the emotions and thoughts in your head to tangible melodies and rhythms is an incredible experience for human existence.

6. Where was your last gig?

In Melbourne just recently. This also coincided with the release of our single from Emberglow, 'The Tangle', and the FIRST show for our newest member, Campbell, on Australian soil. It was incredible playing a home show after being overseas playing in Japan.

7. Where would you like to act?

Europe is the big one. We NEED to get over there, it's the perfect place for our music and show I think.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

In Flames would be a pretty great bucket list band to tick off. Any band that is fun and enjoys touring is fine by us.

9. Whom not?

Haven't really thought about that one actually. Perhaps not clones of ourselves? Haha

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

I think stage fright can be healthy. It's a reminder you still care. Although we are very prepared and excited to go on stage, the pre-show jitters are always there and that just means we can't wait to prove ourselves every night.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

I think watching bands grow and evolve is what influences and inspires us. Watching bands like In Flames, Metallica, etc grow has been great.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

A fan in China asked for our drummer's (soaking wet with sweat...) shirt after a show. We chose not to ask what they did with it later haha.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Every band says this, but our fans are the best! Respectful/ fun, caring and dedicated. We've never taken them for granted.

14. What do you think of our site?

As recent newcomers to Breathing The Core, we love it! The community and publications keep the metal scene alive, without support from you and others we couldn't keep doing this.

15. Something to add?

Please check out EMBERGLOW when it's out on July 24. It's our favorite album yet and we poured SO much care, energy, and aggression into it, so we can't wait ot hear what you think of it!
