Interviews: Paint Me Crimson

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Metal band Paint Me Crimson from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

It’s always the whispers in our heads, these automatic thoughts shaping up and often giving absurd names. One conversation we had in the very beginning was about how often the notion of blood kept coming back in the songwriting process, and crimson was a good way to express that. Our songs try to depict the world as it is, neither black nor white, but rather red. We sat down all together in a pub in Camden Town, to invoke some sort of collective thinking. Colour Me Crimson - taken. What’s more powerful than color? Paint - that wasn’t taken (trusting George on this one).

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We grew up with heavy music and have always been fans of all sorts of metal and punk music. We don’t really have a name for what we do, guess we’re saying alternative metalcore or alternative metal, but we really want to remain heavily limitless. Influences and preferences will do the rest.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

We still don’t know each other. Way too many layers to these onions.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Bring Me The Horizon, Sleep Token, Bullet For My Valentine, Slipknot, The Offspring

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Human beings - we are a fascinating species, both beautiful and horrible. We write about everything that makes us people, the good and the bad.

6. Where was your last gig?

The last gig was at The Horn in St Albans. We’re headlining the Camden Rocks Festival on 6th July.

7. Where would you like to act?

People’s hearts. Anywhere, anytime.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Our previously mentioned heroes - but more immediately with High Regard, Break Fate, House of Protection, and Hands Like Houses.

9. Whom not?

Invoking the 5th amendment.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Bill - Every show, and there is no particular remedy. Well actually, there is one: try running in circles, repeating the word “croissant”.

JJ - While I can’t say I’ve ever suffered from stage fright as such, after having what I thought was a bad first gig with a different band a few years back I have found that reminding myself “You’re going to mess up, that’s just how it is. No one’s going to notice but you though so it’s not that deep.” and learning to accept that is part of my process for relieving any anxiety I might have about a gig. I learned that when I spoke to the guitarist for Cancer Bats in 2022 after a show. He told me he’d messed up on a few songs that night and I never noticed, I was too focused on his amazing performance and stage presence.
