Interviews: Sirius

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Metal/Power Metal band Sirius from Greece. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

The day I conceived the idea of forming a band, I sat down with a good friend of mine who also became the first drummer of Sirius and my father. We were discussing about the name for about 5 minutes. Constellations and some astral names were thrown on the table and suddenly my father said "Sirius". Straightforward, simple, and a beautiful name. We kept it and started making plans immediately about the future.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I grew up listening to a lot of different bands and music genres. Bands like Rainbow, Thin Lizzy, Uriah Heep, etc. were the fundamentals of what we know today as "heavy/power metal". Later, bands like Gamma Ray, Iced Earth, Dream Theater, etc. inspired me to begin composing my own songs based on what I was listening to. So, it was pretty much how things evolved throughout the years of listening to these specific bands.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

When I formed the band, I didn't know the rest of the guys in person. Only Nick Samios was already established in the metal scene as a well-known musician.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

As a band, we have many different favorites such as Iced Earth Megadeth or Manowar. But as individuals:

Napas - Dream Theater

Stathopoulos - Carcass

Simiakos - Death

Samios - Metallica

As you can see we have a big variety of choices and influences haha!

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Our lyrics are based mostly on personal quests. Things like human experience, self-discovery, the choices we make, and the consequences we face are the means that fuel our imagination.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our latest was at Thessaloniki and the Eightball Club! We can't wait to return to this beautiful city and venue!

7. Where would you like to act?

Wacken, Hellfest, and Graspop are the festivals where all bands want to perform! But we would like to play in any place where the metal heartbeats!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Uff, difficult to say. But the bands that inspired us would be a good start.

9. Whom not?

We would like to perform with as many bands as we can! Metal music unites us.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

It's a common thing to get into a stage fright situation when you have to perform in front of an audience. The best way to get rid of it is to take a deep breath, close your eyes, feel the music, and keep in mind that you are on stage because it is something that lights up your soul.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

As I mentioned before, we have many different influences but the common ones are Grand Magus, Iced Earth, Metallica, and Gamma Ray.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

The weirdest thing so far was a question from a fan. He approached our merch stand and asked if we had printed any underwear with our band's name on it. Maybe it's a good idea though haha

13. What do you think of your fans?

Throughout the years we built a strong fanbase. They follow us to places even outside of our base area (Athens, Greece) just to see us perform. They get on stage holding flags with our logo on them! This is something that fuels us to continue the journey! Also, something new is about to drop regarding our fanbase. Tune in to our social media so you can get informed!

14. What do you think of our site?

Personally, I knew about Breathing the Core many years ago and kept on watching many bands and musicians reposting reviews, reports, and interviews. I am so happy to be one of the guys who are part of this! Hope this will continue for many years to come! Keep up the awesome work!

15. Something to add?

To any metalhead out there, any rock'n'roll hellraiser, any music lover. Keep on supporting the bands you like. You never know what will happen. Maybe the next big act is the local band that performs at the next corner. Sirius is so grateful for your support so far, we love you!
