Track By Tracks: Clactonian - Dea Madre (2024)

The first track is titled "Bone Ritual" and it's about a prehistoric ritual initiation made with bones, with some references to primitive life. Like in other songs, we went for very simple, shouty lyrics, because this approach should recreate the simple and fast communication among humans at that time. Music-wise, this is the most war metal-link song from our demo, with a song structure more 80s-influenced.

The second one is the title track, "Dea Madre", which is the only track sung in the Italian language on this demo. Lyrics here are centered on the so-called "paleolithic Venus" ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venus_figurine ), which is also referenced in the cover artwork, so this also represents the act of giving birth to a new human being. The song itself is a blending of first and second-wave black metal, using a death metal tuning.

Then, the third track, "White Thunder"; depicts a storm scene with thunders and lightning, which are deified by primitive men, who were used to identify natural elements as actual divinities. We chose the adjective "white" because it worked well with the song metrics, there's no other reason than this. Music-wise is, again, some black/death metal heavily influenced by early war metal and 80s extreme metal. This track is more bass-centered than the others, containing some elements taken from 90s bass-driven black metal bands such as Barathrum or Necromantia.

The last song is "Lamb", which is a cover from the seminal US black metal band Von. It's pretty faithful to the original: it's fast, evil, and primitive, so it was the perfect choice for ending the demo.
