Track By Tracks: Spiral Grave - Ill Repute (2024)

1. Watching from the Sky:

Ill Repute’s opening track is about the things out there that try to make you behave. No, I don’t think I will.

2. Eulogy for Queen City (21502):

A set of lyrics written and performed with Iron Man, and unearthed for this album. This quite simply tells about the shithole that my birthplace has become.

3. My Angel Comes Tonight:

A lust song, with lyrics written way back in 1991.

4. The Death of Ronnie M:

This is about what everyone in our scene would love to do to a certain pedo who lives in Baltimore.

5. Lungful of Blood:

A song about my dynamic with my family, and it mentions the culprits by name. Never forget that blood doesn’t always equal family.

6. Ill Repute:

The album’s title track is regarding where I think would be the worst place to die. Hearing the opening riff brought on that question, and my answer was “a crack house in South Cumberland.”

7. (Raising the) Chalice:

One day at rehearsal, Mot (Waldmann, drummer) commented about how an old band he was in balked at the idea of titling a song “Raising the Chalice.” I said that we were going to do just that.

A song about fighting the cult and all it stands for. That sounds very timely, unfortunately.

8. To Stare Down God:

I have been told many times that one day I would stand before my maker. My answer is always the same: “I certainly fucking hope so.”

If such a thing does indeed happen, this song is about how the conversation would go.
