Band Biographies: Precursor

Precursor is a hardcore punk band inspired by the 1990s...because we were there.

The band originally emerged as a side project for pals Stuart McKillop (Daggermouth/End This Week with Knives) and Daniel Sioui (Carpenter/All State Champion) along with Andy Lewis (The Fullblast) and Blaine McNamee (In Bear Country) who rallied against the rise of soft, indie bands like City & Colour, the Lumineers, and Mumford & Sons.

Influenced by the likes of 80s/90s NYHC, Lifetime, A Wilhelm Scream, and Kid Dynamite, Precursor made a name for themselves with their high-energy performances, blazing punk riffs, and a darker, pissed-off attitude. The Miles & Miles Apart EP was originally released on State of Mind Recordings (Dead Hearts/Rust Belt Lights/Broadway Calls) out of NY in 2014.

After a long hiatus, Precursor recently added Gabe Mantle (Gob/Brand New Unit) on drums and Travis Hein (Neck of the Woods) on second guitar/BG vocals, who each breathed new life into a band wanting to play faster and louder than ever before.

Middle age, the suicides of friends, and the COVID pandemic fueled Daniel's bitter lyrics and desire to make a record that would stand out with its strongly personal reflection and a desire to create an album that would outlive him.

The result is the 2024 release Thick & Thin on Gold Stock Records.
