Interviews About Albums: MISANTHROPIA - Envy The Dead (2024)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Dutch Black Metal/Death Metal band MISANTHROPIA to ask questions about their album, "Envy The Dead".

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

It is promising, mostly written throughout the entire COVID–19 period. It’s a strong concept – an album about the mental sickness of the human being. An exclusive top-shelf album that is drenched in Death / Black Metal influences.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

The zeitgeist in combination with the sickness of the human spirit, mentally to speak. Because of the extreme poverty that haunted these times, the living were jealous of the dead, hence the name ‘Envy The Dead’.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

Most of the riffs were delivered by Dennis, and together with the other band members songs are structured, and composed. Riffs and pieces are arranged into one cohesive song. Together we look for the best composition.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

I would say the song Prosperity by Cocaine. This one is totally different in contrast to the rest of the songs, mainly because of the old–school vibe, it is very ‘Black ‘n Roll’.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?

The album as a whole has the message that inspiration and fascination come very close to adoration, and every human being is carrying a demon. It is at the top of your inner soul, your inner demon.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

No, not really. Purchase the album and immerse yourself, find your inner demon.

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

Actually, the same answer as the first and second questions, but we do have bands who are an example for us, like Behemoth, Cradle of Filth, Dimmu Borgir, Satyricon, etc.

8. Something to add?

For those who know our music already; you will experience this album as a totally different one, though we sound the same as a band. We’ve reduced the keyboard parts drastically, as this album is more guitar–driven. Production-wise – our choice fell once again on the one and only Mike Wead, known for his guitar work in King Diamond and Mercyful Fate. Furthermore, I am tremendously proud that we’ve come with our fifth installment during our twentieth anniversary with the last ten years in the same line-up! Our inner demons are so strong, that we are unstoppable. To conclude, I want to thank Wormholedeath and a special thanks goes out to Natasa Pribac and Lucy Catananti.
