Interviews: Drenched

On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Rock band Drenched from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or did it just come out like that?

The band's name unfortunately has no interesting or unique backstory. Before Mike, Marc, and I (Mak) joined the band, Callum decided on the name after talking about it with a previous member. They suggested ‘Drench It’ to which Callum thankfully decided no, but Drenched came shortly after.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We all love music from the late 90s and 00s alternative scenes. We each like different bands with different vibes from these periods, so it helps when writing, that each of us has slightly different ideas and inspirations.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Me, Mike, and Marc all went to the same school, and we were involved in various music projects together. Mike and I were also in a band together before Drenched. Mike and Marc met Callum after being invited to join the band, and then I met Callum after joining a couple of years later.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Mak - Rage Against the Machine.

Mike - Tool

Callum - Superheavan

Marc - Nirvana

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

I think we just all love playing music. We all have different things that we love outside of music, but music is something that we all share. We all agree that playing live is the best feeling, so we try to do it as much as possible!

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was a local one in our hometown, Berwick. We were invited to headline an event, which included some great bands. It was a great night and also great to play alongside some other local bands, as well as one who was touring the country.

7. Where would you like to play?

The download would be such an amazing festival to play. It’s at the top of the list. Not only to play in front of a massive crowd but alongside some amazing bands as well. However, a personal side quest, I have always wanted to say ‘Hello Glasto!’.

8. Who would you like to support?

Anyone who will have us! We’d all give different answers for this, but my ultimate (and probably Mike’s as well) would be Tool. These guys are one of my biggest inspirations, their shows are phenomenal, and to play alongside them would be unbelievable.

9. Who not?

I don't think we are in the position yet to be picking and choosing who are playing with or not .

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

At some point or another, we all have. The best advice is, don’t worry about making mistakes. Because you’re gonna mess up anyway, that’s just live music. Usually, when I make a mistake, I look at another member (usually Callum) and he’s more than likely laughing, which makes me feel a lot better. Then you just get back to it.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

For me, it’s probably bands like Rage Against the Machine, Tool, and Mudvayne (to name a few). All these bands have bass players that leave me in awe. Tim Commerford’s tone is unmatched, and my playing style has mostly developed from watching him and learning his bass lines. Justin Chancellor’s bass lines are so inventive and go against the norm for what a bassist’s role is in a band. Ryan Martinie is a different beast altogether, his creativity and arsenal of techniques are mind-blowing.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

One fan asked us to sign a drumstick. Mike was reluctant to let go of one (please buy our merch so we can afford drumsticks and food).

13. What do you think of your fans?

I don’t think we are in the realm of having ‘fans’ yet, but people who like our music are amazing. They always have nice things to say and it’s quite humbling talking to someone who likes what we are putting out. It’s probably one of the best things about making music.

14. What do you think of our site?

The site is really cool. I like the ‘Behind the Artworks’ section, as it is something that doesn’t often get a lot of attention.

15. Something to add?

Thank you for talking with us! And to anyone who has enjoyed our stuff so far, thank you so much for giving us a listen. Our EP ‘Grey’ comes out on the 23rd of August. Tell your friends, tell your enemies. Give it a listen and let us know what you think! Thank you!
