Interviews: METHEDRAS
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Thrash Metal/Death Metal band METHEDRAS from Italy. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like
that?
Andrea: METHEDRAS is a name taken from the world of J.R.R. Tolkien, meaning
"Last Peak" in Sindarin, appearing in the “lord of the Rings” book, delivering concepts
of fierce, strength, and superiority. The band sound processes a sort of derived thrash-death metal spiced with many other flavors in it, mostly added in the latest two or three releases.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Andrea: The spirit of the band has always been TO mix between Thrash and Death
metal, with this idea clearly focused on our minds we always carried on this way to
play and to compose music, exploring new solutions from one album to another.
Every single musician that has been part of the band always put his ideas on the
songs, never disrespecting the original roots of our music but adding new ideas to
work on.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Andrea: The band was born in 1996 from my will and the former guitarist Massi who
was the only guy I already knew, being my front-of-house direct neighbor at that
time. All the other members have been discovered on the road, year by year.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Dani: My favorite band ever is Dream Theater, not exactly related to our music but
one of my biggest musical influences.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Dani: Usually it starts from the 7th string of the guitar, a riff can come out every time
we jam together, and then everything else is so natural to develop with the guys while
rehearsing. Of course, we try to compose songs in our style but add new elements
album by album.
6. Where was your last gig?
Dani: it was here in Italy, in a venue called “Dedolor Club“.
7. Where would you like to act?
Dani: Personally I would love to come back to South America, we played just in Brazil
but the metal is very much liked also in Argentina and Chile for example, so it could
be a great thing to tour there! Oh, and also Mexico!
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Dani: Interesting question, considering that we just did a couple of features in our
career… well, in this last period I’m listening to a lot of the music from “Ghost”, I really
admire Tobias aka Papa Emeritus, I think that he is a very talented guy so I would
love to have his voice and ideas on a song, that could be really cool!
9. Whom not?
Dani: For sure Italian pop artists!
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how
to beat that?
Dani: Of course yes, at the beginning of my live career I was definitely more afraid to
be on stage, there was more insecurity due to a lack of experience on stage… than
you start to play with more experienced musicians who can teach you a lot on how to
win your fright and you start to be more relaxed and to enjoy more what you’re doing
there, so I think that everything is to experience on Your skin, growing from each
mistake or problems that you can have while playing.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Dani: as I said before, Dream Theater influenced a lot of what I’m playing, speaking
about bands more related to our music I can say Machine Head, Gojira, Nevermore, and Testament are all big sources to take inspiration from.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Dani: Once a Russian fan drank a whole bottle of Bacardi, he obviously fainted after
that and when he was able to speak again he started to ask a lot of questions about
our political opinions, that was a weird moment because he wasn’t so lucid to have
that kind of speak!
13. What do you think of your fans?
Dani: We’re extremely grateful to all the fans who support and still follow us
nowadays, it’s a pleasure to know that somebody out there is listening to our music
and appreciates it!
14. What do you think of our site?
Dani: I think it’s great, you’re doing an awesome job to support artists like us!
15. Something to add?
Thank you so much for this opportunity, and salute to your followers!
