Interviews: Souls Of Steel
On this new occasion, we have had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Metal band Souls Of Steel from El Salvador. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like
that?
Initially, our name was going to be something else, but we felt it didn't
represent what we were looking for. After reflecting on metal music and
everyone who listens to this genre, we found the ideal name that honored all
the metalheads. Metal is a strong conviction in each of us, rooted deeply in
our souls. Once you are born with it, there's no turning back. It's
immortalized in your life; it forges a character of steel in you... hence, Souls
of Steel.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
It's the genre we've always liked since elementary or middle school. We
grew up watching our metal stars in concerts, videos, and life testimonies. It's the
type of music that has allowed us to express ourselves in ways that other genres
can't. Metal has proven not to be a passing trend; it has been there since its
conception. It is our duty to carry that torch now that our rock heroes are retiring.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Daniel and I (Benjamin) have known each other for about 15 years.
Then we met Oscar, our drummer, about 8 or 9 years ago in another band we were
in. Our latest addition has been Sebastián; his voice was the final ingredient for
our project. We met him 3 years ago.
4. Each band member's favorite band?
Benjamin – Megadeth
Daniel – Megadeth
Oscar – Dimmu Borgir
Sebastian – Black Sabbath
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
What inspires us to write our songs are the experiences we have lived
throughout our short lives, as well as the experiences of other people, and bad things
happening in our society. There are also songs inspired by our late rockstars like
Dio or Lemmy, their life testimonies, and how they gave everything for metal, for
you and me.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last show was here in El Salvador, a couple of weeks ago, but we gonna
take a short break because one of our members got a minor surgery and needs
rest for 2 months.
7. Where would you like to act?
That's a tough question, there are so many great festivals around the globe!
Europe, North, and South America, etc... but if we had to choose we would like to
play in Hellfest and Wacken open-air.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
One could dream of the big bands.. like Megadeth would be nice or Judas
Priest.
9. Whom not?
We don't have any specific artists or bands we wouldn't like to collaborate
with. We believe that every musician brings something unique to the table, and
we're open to exploring different collaborations, as long as they are inside our
parameters of the metal genre.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to
beat that?
Of course, we've suffered from stage fright! That's what makes this
adventure fun! But over time, you gain more trust in yourself and in your
bandmates. They'll be there to cover up your mistakes, haha.
Our tip for beginners is to practice regularly and focus on enjoying the
performance. Confidence comes with experience, and the more you perform,
the more comfortable you'll feel on stage.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Megadeth, Dio, Black Sabbath, Pantera, Motley Crue, Van Halen,
Symphony X, Testament, etc.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Well.. so far nothing weird.. at least not yet haha! But when the time comes
we sure will let you know!
13. What do you think of your fans?
Our fans mean the world to us, all those souls made of steel out there!.
Their energy, support, and passion drive us to create and perform with
everything we've got. From venues of 2 or 3 people to some good shows we
had openings for big bands! We love each experience with them! We always
like to have a beer or just chat with them after each show.
14. What do you think of our site?
We think Breathing The Core is an amazing site! It's a fantastic
platform for discovering new bands and connecting with the rock and metal
community. We appreciate the work you do to support and promote the
genre.
15. Something to add?
To all those out there! Let's keep metal alive for the sake of the world!
Keep supporting your local and international bands! Metal is what unites and
ignites us! So buy your local band stuff! Dreams need funds too! Stay metal!
