Track By Tracks: QILIN - Parasomnia (2024)
"When we entered the last months of creating Parasomnia, we had half of the album written and we took the moment to reflect on what theme the first tracks could refer to and in what place they would lead us.
By looking to Lethean Dreams, On Migoi's Trail & Tayir Alfiniq, we were sure that the universe of dreams and sub-consciousness would be the perfect area to have this new trip.
Our tracks are mainly created by assembling jams & riffs. The title comes after when listening to them.
Lethean Dreams was the very first one, written immediately after our 1st album Petrichor. The aquatic and floating introduction clearly symbolizes the fall into slumber. The Lethe River is one of the 5 rivers of Tartarus in the Ancient Greek Mythology. Spirits come to this river & drink its water to forget their past. The Lethee also symbolizes a portal between the real world and dreams.
So that world of subconsciousness is made of caves with many corridors that lead to different worlds like the snowy & mountain scenery of On Migoi's Trail where you could meet the Yeti which eventually hunts you. Then, you arrive in hotter landscapes like in Tayir Alfiniq where you could meet another creature. Speaking of hot areas, Hundred-Handed Wards & its more aggressive and doomy ambiance clearly refers to the Hekatonkheires who were considered as guardians of Tartarus.
Between those worlds, the trip continues in the cave corridors depicted in Innervision.
Finally, Ouro & Boros, the first & last tracks of Parasomnia, are linked by the notes & the melody we mainly play at the end of Boros. The idea there was to symbolize the beginning and the end of the journey in this universe of dreams. Like an eternal cycle that blurs the boundaries between subconsciousness & the real world.
