Track By Tracks: Silver Dollar Room - Gilded Echoes (2024)
From conception, Gilded Echoes was originally sparked as an idea between Jamie & Douglas to bring their creativity and love of
music to the studio. After realizing the quality of the recordings captured, and knowing they couldn't do it alone, the decision
was made to bring the other members of Silver Dollar Room on board. Introducing John, Lisa & Dan to the fold added the final
key ingredients to the recordings, ultimately bringing the songs and Gilded Echoes to life.
1. Origins:
Origins reflect the struggles and strains of the people who came from and lived in the council schemes in Scotland. A nod to
the small few that have made it out and a chance to reflect on perseverance, strength, and hope. Heroes don't just exist in the
movies.
2. Dark:
This song was inspired by various recent political situations that have been witnessed. The conservatives trying to introduce The
Rape Clause and Two-Child Limit, Youth Clubs supplying hot meals to children while their parents are trapped in a never-ending
cycle of substance abuse and neglect. This is ultimately a song about rebellion and fighting back against the system.
3. Little Things:
Inspired by the 1993 Michael Douglas movie Falling Down. Little Things touches on themes of inner battles, societal pressure,
and the delicate balance between vulnerability and strength.
4. Individuality:
This song is a reflection on the struggle to find your place when the world is pushing you hard in the direction they think you
need to be. The hatred of this brings irony in that you seek the guidance and approval of like minds to achieve your own
individuality.
5. Mantle:
Mantle is a soulful ballad that pays homage to the unsung mothers, fathers, or anyone you seek for guidance when you
have lost your way.
6. Melanin:
Is a song that empathizes with what is wrong with the world that we currently live in. It explores themes of judgment, vulnerability,
identity, racial prejudice, and the struggle for autonomy in a world that often imposes limitations.
7. Better Company:
Better Company tackles self-harm, both physically and emotionally. A reminder that hurting yourself is not the key to self-improvement or leaving trauma behind. We disguise so much behind our stoic faces but nobody truly understands the struggles
we experience behind this. All people see is our beautiful face.
8. Weaponised:
A reflection on the struggles of becoming a father at a young age. The feeling of absolute vulnerability, the fear of the future, and the impending realization that relationships can and will fail.
9. Fairytale:
Open to interpretation, the listener can immerse themselves in the lyrics and melody, finding key themes and messages they
can relate to and explore. Listening to this song and reading the lyrics will ultimately pose the question, who is Amy?
10. Canon Law:
With the introduction of a nationwide lockdown in March 2020 life dramatically changed for society as a collective. Routines
were disrupted, finances were impacted and adversity was faced. While some embraced the changes, others fell into a spiral of
denial, blame, hate, and eventually madness.
