Behind The Scenes: MEDUSIAN - Facestealer (Official Video)
We originally had the idea for the video concept as a way we could accurately portray both the faceless description of the protagonist of the Facestealer lyrics, and the anxiety, paranoia, and torment they go through in the story. This resulted in something resembling a snuff film, with a lot of demand coming from the person wearing the hood. Our singer, Mitchell, didn't feel comfortable asking anybody else to have a hood over their head, hands bound, and put in situations that could cause any harm, so he felt most comfortable doing it himself. We faked what we could, naturally, but with us not being trained actors we felt some things were best done with a couple good, but real takes. During the video you'll see him choked with wire, thrown down on the concrete, and hit a few times with the hood over his face. All of these were real, albeit naturally not trying to cause any real injury, even if the choking part wasn't very pleasant for him to experience.
All this was shot in the garage of Robert Hellström, the video director, who was incredibly professional and brought the video to life despite it's simple concept and setting. We really can't praise him highly enough, he's very talented and a wonderful guy. When you watch the video please know that even though Mitchell walked away with a couple bruises, his dog was snoring incredibly loudly in the corner of the garage, his partner Luella was the person hitting him in the video, and he was regularly cracking more jokes than anybody with a bag on his head and his wrists tied ever should. Shooting the band playing their instruments was really fun, and by comparison really simple. Isak and Richard, our drummer and bassist respectively, are incredibly professional and committed 100% to their part. We're really proud of what we've created.
