Behind The Tracks: Isaurian - Primal Life (Single) (2024)

Jorge: This track was written originally for a different project, something more electronic-oriented for Hoanna to sing on. The demo had more synths and kind of a different vibe. But while I was writing the songs for The Pulsing Rush, I heard something very Isaurian in that demo, and I re-recorded with more guitars and heavier tones, changing the dynamics a lot. And it worked perfectly.

We like to say, in fun, that we try to "bring sexy back to doom metal". Type O Negative is a huge influence, October Rust especially, and that is one sexy record. They don't do those in metal anymore, so even though we take that path in just a few songs, I like the idea of adding some sensual themes moods, and rhythms to the band while still being heavy. And Primal Life is exactly that. A really big, heavy, intense chorus with more ethereal sounds in the verses and bridge.

The song is basically about attraction, sex, and the primal aspects of that. Scents, smells, anticipation, desire. And I like the peculiar situation that I wrote that song inspired by my wife and how I feel about her and she is the one singing those lyrics. That happens often in Isaurian.
