We had been messing around with new ways we wanted to start our set for the preshow at Furnace Fest ‘23 and Mike wrote an intro riff that we continued to elaborate on and add to until it became more of a song than an intro track. So we continued to play around with it which inevitably bled into the writing of a “sister” song in a different tuning, which would become “In Mouths Wielding Silence.” We sat on these two songs while we tried to decide what we wanted to do with them when Matt Marquez asked if we’d be interested in recording with him for a weekend for him to try out his new studio. After that, the two singles kind of grew from there.
