Interviews About Albums: CRUCIFICTION - Will To Power (2024)

In this new interview, we sat down with the American Deathcore band CRUCIFICTION to ask questions about their album, "Will To Power".

1. What is the story or concept behind Will to Power, and how did you develop the narrative that runs through the album?

"Will To Power" is an album from the point of view of a man who is exacting revenge on all of his enemies methodically. The main character's misinterpretation of philosophical works guide him into an extreme and pessimistic viewpoint of the world.

2. How did you choose the title Will to Power for the album, and what does it signify in the context of the music and lyrics?

I chose the title based on the Friedrich Nietzsche book. It ties back to the concept of the record and the main character's inspiration.

3. The album is described as a journey of revenge from the perspective of a man. How did you approach writing lyrics that capture this intense, dark storyline?

I placed myself in a quite dark place mentally. luckily (or unluckily) things weren’t going great in my life at the time and I tried using that as inspiration.

The lyrics came from me trying to view the world from the perspective of the character, or perhaps an extreme version of how I felt in scenarios.

4. Can you talk about the philosophical influences on the album? How do these ideas shape the character’s worldview and actions throughout the album?

I enjoy reading a lot of books on philosophy in general. existentialism, nihilism, etc. In history the most evil people have taken things and used it for their own disgusting agendas and that’s how I approached the character and his relation to books like “Will To Power” or “48 Laws Of Power.”

He takes concepts that can be used for self-improvement and twists them.

5. Horror films and literature are cited as major influences. Which specific works had the biggest impact on the album's themes and atmosphere?

American Psycho (2000)
Creep (2014)
Audition (1999)
Nightcrawler (2014)

and many more…

6. Musically, what can listeners expect from Will to Power? How does the album differ from other projects you've been involved in?

They can expect a classic deathcore record, modernized enough to where it’s not trying to sound dated but sticks to the roots of the genre. This project in my opinion has the most intensity out of anything i’ve written previously, also art and lyrics wise my best yet.

7. The single “Caged For Extermination” showcases a variety of influences. Can you discuss how this track represents the overall sound and themes of the album?

I chose “Caged For Extermination” as the first single because I think it showcases all of the various influences we have for the record. From the music video to the lyrics everything felt right for it to be the first look at the album.

8. The track “Amputated Satisfaction” was released with a visualizer. How does this song fit into the album's narrative, and what message were you trying to convey?

The song "Amputated Satisfaction" is about tearing your enemies apart and piecing them all together to make a disgusting amalgamation. Absolute power and strength and what the main character needs to feel.

9. How did you balance the horror-inspired elements with the brutal deathcore sound on Will to Power?

I feel like the two go hand in hand, I’m not the first to be inspired by horror in the genre.

Visually I was most inspired by the horror genre, especially when it came to the booklet, single art, and cover to make it feel very much like a movie poster. Lyrically I wanted to paint a picture that put images into the listeners head that would depict something of a horror movie.

10. Were there any particular challenges or breakthroughs during the recording process that shaped the final sound of the album?

Every album comes with its challenges, for me it came down to finding my sound as a vocalist. There was a lot of trial and error, lots of painful days, but when it came time to track myself I felt confident and I think it shows.

11. What message or experience do you hope listeners will take away after listening to Will to Power from start to finish?

I hope it can serve as an album to listen to when the listener needs to release any sort of aggression or rage.

12. Are there any tracks on the album that hold a special significance for you or that you think will particularly resonate with fans?

Looking back I think “Amputated Satisfaction” and “Endless Torture” stand out to me. I think the fans will love the OG influence on both of them.

13. With Will to Power being your debut album, how do you think it sets the tone for CRUCIFICTION's future work?

I think this record serves perfectly to show what this band is capable of and sets us apart from what the majority of the genre is doing. Continuing further I only see us progressing into more extreme themes and songwriting.

14. What plans do you have for releasing more content from the album, such as music videos or additional singles, before its official release?

There will be a music video for the title track that releases at the same time as the record. I will be trying my best to put out some playthroughs with the record in time and hopefully one more music video.
