Interviews About Albums: Murderess - Time To Kill (2024)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Brazilian Death Metal project Murderess to ask questions about his album, "Time To Kill".

1. What can you say about Time to Kill?

Time to Kill is our first work, and we are very happy with the result and the reception from the audience. We have received positive reviews that have exceeded our expectations. All the songs have a very strong meaning for the band, and each one was carefully crafted.

2. What is the meaning of the EP name?

The name of the EP signifies that our time has come, like a cry of revolt from women who have always been discouraged from speaking their minds and have been discredited musically and artistically. The songs address legends and real women who had the courage to respond to a society that oppresses them. In contrast to the romanticization of violence against women (which is common in album covers, lyrics, and horror films), in each of our songs, a man dies.

3. Which one is the composer of the Time to Kill?

The composition of the songs is done collectively. Starting with the riffs and lyrics from Jazz Kaipora, the vocal lines are added by Claudia Franco, and finally, the rhythm and tempo are completed by Pedro Fraga.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

Für Elise was the first song created at our initial meeting where everything began, making it very special for us. It tells the true story of a woman who shocked Brazil by killing her extremely violent husband.

5. Is there a special message in Time to Kill? If there is what is it?

Yes, the message is that women can react to violence, be frightening and brutal and that while we are used to pain, we are increasingly learning to use it to our advantage.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

Yes. In the last song, Bone Keeper, there is a part that says, “We all have wept to the rest when we felt drained and forlorn. Nevertheless, there is an old lady who will collect bones in the desert of the mind,” which means that we have all experienced moments where everything seems dead and we lament, but the spirit of the wild woman creates magic from the remains and transforms pain into courage.

7. Which inspirations have been important for this EP? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

Our inspiration primarily comes from the support and friendship among the band members, who overcome difficult moments together and find in music a refuge and expression of pain and hope. Musically speaking, we are inspired by women who have had attitude and courage and showed us it is possible: Valhalla, Nervosa, Soror, as well as great metal icons like Sepultura, Death, Darkthrone, and Candlemass.

8. Something to add?

We would like to thank Grand Sounds PR and Breathing The Core for this interview, and Orbis Studio in Brasília, Brazil, where the EP was recorded. We would also like to say that Time to Kill Volume II is already being prepared.
