Interviews About Albums: Odium Humani Generis - Międzyczas (2024)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Polish Black Metal project Odium Humani Generis to ask questions about his album, "Międzyczas".

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

Our upcoming release is a full album called "Międzyczas" premiering September 27, 2024, via the excellent Malignant Voices label. Preorder (CD/LP/TS) is already available! Songs we've been working on for quite a long time, are much more polished than probably any of our previous releases. A wide range of inspirations also beyond black metal classics. the story about evanescence, disillusionment, and the struggle with the inevitable.

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

The name refers to a state, a situation in which time has no meaning. In the text, this is expanded to a description in which neither time nor place matters. I also loosely but clearly refer to the term "non-place" taken from cultural anthropology. Denial of place, denial of time. This can be understood in many ways, I tried to come up with a convenient form of escape - it will never be better anywhere. The only solution is to try to escape the grip of time and space.

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

This is a material that we all really worked on, and everyone has their invaluable input into the final shape of the album. This approach also allowed us to create an album that is in a way inspired by the musical tastes of each of us. Maybe you can't hear elements of other genres directly in the music - we still play black metal, but we certainly wouldn't have come up with some ideas if we hadn't freely used the musical inspirations of each of us.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

This is a very difficult issue. Choosing a single for this album was a big challenge. We have classic black metal tracks here, such as „Idée Fixe”, „Drogowskaz”, but also a bit of coldwave in „Jarzmo” or the title track „Międzyczas” with almost rock riffs in the second part. It depends on what I would choose this song for. I guess there is no way to accurately sum up our album with one characteristic song.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what it is?

There is no particular message, it is rather a collection of descriptions of various experiences, feelings, and cogitations.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

Not really. They're all in the album insert, you can read them. First of all, I don't really like to write about them, and secondly, I don't know how I would choose a specific fragment - should I look for the saddest? The most blunt and powerful? And I'm supposed to judge it myself? I'd rather not. The lyrics are no secret and will definitely be published after the premiere.

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

Taake, Katatonia, Furia, Lifelover, Vemod, Triptykon, Siekiera, Rush, The Cure. This is a good place to thank the excellent Michał „The Fall” Stępień for mixing and mastering and K.Hoarder for help in selecting the proper keyboard sound.
