Interviews: Archsin

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Experimental Progressive Metal band Archsin from Ukraine. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

It was generated by the biggest 33% of our fan club - the guitarist's wife. Given the pitch "math-inspired metal band name with something a bit off", she answered almost immediately.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

The whole project revolved around the "fuck the genres" genre. And fuck that, too. And the vocals as well, too distracting. Well, and the instruments too, but we failed to get rid of them, but Cage did too in 4'33". Being free feels great, even just for 23 minutes.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed? 

It's Ukraine, baby. everybody knows someone.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Let's start with the drummer. he's the calmest. ABBA, Deicide, Gutalax, Cytotoxin, Seven Spires, Tulip, Kandia, Machine Head, and Death to name a few. also, everything that Charlotte, Fabienne, and Scissorhands do.

Bass player: Esbjörn Svensson Trio, GoGo Penguin, Dervish, Opeth, A Perfect Circle

Guitarist: I like composers/songwriters. Mikael Åkerfeldt, Maynard James Keenan, Devin Townsend, Dave Grohl, Steven Wilson.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Real world. photos freeze the picture and let you relive it. music does the same for emotions.

6. Where was your last gig?

The answer was intentionally left blank. it is too traumatizing.

7. Where would you like to act?

The answer was banned for having too much politics in it. but it involves ruins.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Townsend? 😉

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Yes, we have. it comes bundled with the stage, like, here's your stage delivered, sign here, and here's your fright. you didn't ask for it, but it comes free, take it. and here's a piece of free advice on dealing with stage fright, based on our meticulous research:

- the Papa Het way. don't go there sober for the first 20 years. afterwards, make a movie about how you deal with the consequences.

- the MJK way. pretend you're not there.

- the Ozzy way. exhibit your asshole from the stage and make that an integral part of your performance.

- the Finnish way. do it so ridiculously overprepared that you just can't do it wrong even when you're completely freaked out.

- the normal way: do it several hundred times

- no one really gives a fuck.

Archsin members were observed in the wild applying some of the mentioned techniques. Rehearse, play on a smaller stage, play on a bigger stage. Record your act, reflect, and improve.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Opeth, Nirvana, Machine Head, the Gathering.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

A handshake with a fan that has masturbated on the stage after your set.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Our wives are the best for sure!

14. What do you think of our site?

A lot of good work went into creating that. being featured there is really humbling.

15. Something to add?

Working in a band full of talented musicians is like shepherding the cats.
