Interviews: Talkradio
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Indie Rock solo project Talkradio from Australia. Check out the interview and follow the project on his FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?
I was a big Radiohead fan back then. I still am. At one point, someone I worked with mentioned how they
still listened to ABC talk radio on the way to work and I thought it would be funny if someone was
referring to a band every time they said “talk radio”. I decided to make it one word, to mimic “Radiohead”
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
I’ve loved rock music since my granddad bought me my first album when I was 6 (Kiss “Unmasked”).
Eventually, my all-time favorite bands became the ones from the 90’s. Groups like Foo Fighters,
Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam. Rock music has always excited me.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Well, I do this all by myself, so you could say I did... :P
4. Each band member's favourite band?
See question 2.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
My biggest inspirations have been Chris Cornell (from a vocal perspective) and Dave Grohl (from a
songwriting perspective, as well as The Beatles. I admire artists who can write songs that stick in my head
and make me wanna tap my foot (or headbang).
6. Where was your last gig?
My last gig was a few weeks ago in a pub about 45 minutes north of where I live. I have a monthly gig there
but it’s for my acoustic covers duo.
7. Where would you like to perform?
With my original stuff? Anywhere, to be honest. Given I write everything, as well as play every
instrument and sing every vocal in the studio, it’s not really possible for my songs to see a stage at this
point.
8. Whom would you like to perform with?
Foo Fighters or Pearl Jam.
9. Whom not?
Taylor Swift (or any middle-of-the-road auto-tuned pop act to be honest)
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?
Not really. I started performing on a stage at the age of 12. I don’t recall ever being overly afraid of it.
Either that or it’s just been too long for me to remember what it felt like. If anything, performing on a
stage calms me. It’s almost meditative.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
Bands like Foo Fighters, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Queens of the Stone Age, Radiohead, Placebo, and Powderfinger.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
Sadly, no one has asked me for anything. I don’t really have fans as such. Just friends who like listening to
my stuff. My Facebook following never seems to grow beyond the people I know, lol. If I do have any, I
wouldn’t know about them at this point.
13. What do you think of your fans?
As previously mentioned, I have no fans that I know of. In the end though, outside of creative satisfaction,
fans are the most important thing in this line of work. It’s part of why we write and create. To hopefully
make a positive impact on someone’s life.
14. What do you think of our site?
I think it’s great. Any site that promotes genuine original music is very important as far as I’m concerned.
Keep up the great work.
15. Something to add?
Only that you can’t really sum up my sound from one song. You’d have to listen to an entire album to
understand. Each song can sound quite different from the last. I’d also like to thank you for the
opportunity and thank everyone who actually took the time to read through this. It means a lot.
