Interviews: Violet Breed

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Alternative Rock band Violet Breed from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or come out just like that?

Violet Breed was a collective idea between myself and Brian… We always liked the idea of using the word ‘Violet’... And through trial and error, with a mixture of ideas, Brian put the words Violet and Breed together! And there you have it! Nothing crazy really…‘Violet Breed’ was born! It just sounded right and fitted the music we were writing really well…

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

I’ve always been into rock/alternative music from an early age. Growing up with bands like Queen and The Beatles… Just seems natural to write and perform in that style for me.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

I’ve known Brian for 8-9 years now I think? He’s always been a great mentor, producer and most importantly my friend in all my musical endeavours. I look up to him immensely in music and as a friend too. He’s taught me a lot about the music industry. And when the opportunity came along to co-write songs together and form a new band, it was something I could not do. I feel very privileged to be involved in this project. Our working relationship is effortless because we enjoy the same styles of music and write good songs together. Our creative process is like a mechanical machine at the moment.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

For me, Queen is my all-time favourite band… I remember my dad playing Queen on our old Hi-Fi stereo when my mum was outperforming in her own band! At an early age, I reckon 8 years old? I was blown away by Freddie Mercury’s vocals. It was incredible! We listened to an album called ‘Made In Heaven’ and still to this day, it's one of my favourite records of all time… For Brian, The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, UFO etc

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

When it comes to writing songs, I have to say we are both heavily inspired by Paul McCartney… He’s the king of melodies. I’m obsessed with his whole creative approach to writing songs. I recently finished his A-Z The Lyrics Autobiography book, and it was incredible to read. Hearing his influences and understanding his creative process.

6. Where was your last gig?

As I’m answering this, I literally just finished an acoustic show in the seaside town of Bournemouth in the UK! Just a 2-hour acoustic set of a collection of songs. It went very well :)

7. Where would you like to act?

Any rock arena would be nice!

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

I’m happy to be featured with Brian Wheat in Violet Breed! Just wait for our single ‘Awake; to come out! ;) That's pretty amazing in itself! But it would be a dream to guest sing a song with Queen (Brian May & Roger Taylor) I guess one day? If that's not too bold to say…

9. Whom not?

No clue, haven't really thought about it, to be honest lol

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

I get a bit nervous, I just find myself wandering around aimlessly doing vocal warm-ups to focus myself. And I like to drink a regular Coke soda or have honey and ginger tea!

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Queen, The Beatles, My Chemical Romance and singer-songwriter Jeff Buckley… Jeff Buckley's debut and only official album ‘Grace’ changed my whole perspective on writing and performing.

12. What do you think of your fans?

They're amazing! Very supportive of this new project so far!

13. What do you think of our site?

It’s great! Loads of new music to discover and explore!

14. Something you'd like to add?

Really looking forward to Violet Breed’s debut single release on the 13th of September! Our brand new song ‘Awake’ will be available to stream on all platforms! Thank you for all the support so far!
