Track By Tracks: Mexican Standoff - Raiders Of The Dutch Rudder (2024)
The album as a whole:
This album is the celebration of a newfound friendship, between three people who shared an awesome experience in the past but were separated by life’s ups and downs. The joy of getting back together is reflected in joyful refrains, and the solid bass and guitar riffing never left the band’s music.
Track by track:
1. Falling Down:
Great opener, not our typical sound ‘tho. This mixes punk and country: it’s fast and sustained by a Country train beat that evolves into a chorus and a very aggressive riffing after it.
2. Denver Omelette:
Our take on 80’s Glam Rock, less hair metal, and more Cheap Trick style melodies. The chorus revolves around a stop-and-go that emphasizes its open melody.
3. Salvation:
Metal riffing and rhythmic grooves that remind me of Rammstein and White Zombie, all mixed up with very melodic vocal lines.
4. Wheezy:
Another hard rock number, mid-tempo, with a simple but super effective riffing and a super catchy chorus. It reminds me of some less theatrical ‘70s Alice Cooper.
5. Bloody Summer:
A Danko Jones-styled up-tempo that stops before the chorus, takes a running start, and explodes in the usual super catchy melody.
6. Anthrax Empress pt.2:
We experimented with the rhythm a bit on this one. A form that we had never used but which is perfect for framing a super melodic ballad with an anthemic refrain.
7. Proud Mary:
Super ‘70s classic rearranged the Mexican way, with heavy riffing and groovy rhythmics.
8. Gifted blonde:
“Fun” is the main element of this one, a cross between White Zombie rhythmics and a more modern kind of rock. The vocal lines reflect the “fun” elements of the story narrated in the lyrics.
9. Adios motherfucker:
This one is very 00’s sounding: huge opening riff evolving in open chords and a lot of stop-and-go’s. It has more serious vocals and a greater connection with the band’s past.
10. Morning light:
Super groovy Black Sabbath-like riffing and super heavy, nearly sludge, at the end of the song...but always with a very melodic core in the vocal lines.
