Behind The Artworks: Dekonstructor - Ominous Game (2024)
As a general theme for the album, we were looking for iconic artworks that represented
scenarios based on the lyrics of the singles we published as well as the album name
itself, which needed to have identifiable and differentiating content.
There needed to be coherence of style among all the artworks. For this reason, we
elected a single artist, the great Mark Erskine, to work on the Ominous Game album
artwork, as well as the covers for the previously released singles Triple Or Nothing, All
Things Shall Fall, and Deceive The Deceiver.
The Ominous Game cover art concept was looking for some triangular symmetry
between the 3 elements: the dark hooded being at the top, and the woman and the man falling at the bottom.
The hooded being should be breaking a big clock by smashing it into the ground.
Behind that hooded being, farther away, we should see many hooded beings in black
who are also getting closer to the abyss.
The woman and the man jumping into the abyss are an interpretation of the Ominous
Game song lyrics “a leap of faith into the menace, falling for an absurd promise”.
The hooded being smashing the clock into the ground is an interpretation of the song’s
lyrics “Time fades away” so that it is understood that time’s up.
The many hooded beings in black are an interpretation of the song’s lyrics “We’re
coming your way, down for the ominous game”.
The scene also was meant to be frontal so that the spectator could be engaged as a witness to the scene.
William talked with Mark for some time about this concept and provided a very basic
sketch of how the elements could be arranged in general so that then Mark could apply
his knowledge and talent to making this artwork come to life.
And definitely, we are very satisfied with the result!
