Behind The Scenes: Dioivo - O rei (Official Video)

The melodic black metal duo from Vigo, Dioivo, has released a new music video titled "O Rei." It was filmed last year at the Extreme Division Mallorca festival, held in the city of Palma, where the duo shared the stage with prominent bands such as Master, Vidres a la Sang, Totengott, and Trallery. The footage was recorded by Tuco Martín and edited by the band themselves, accompanying a song from their latest album Cara os Ceios Incrementes. This album was released in 2023 by the Greek label Sleaszy Rider, and the concert in Palma was one of the highlights of their promotional tour, which also took them to Madrid, Gasteiz, Sant Adrià de Besòs, Braga, Covilhã, Ferrol, Pontevedra, and A Coruña.

The Extreme Division Mallorca, organized by Deathlight Music, is one of the key annual events for metal in the Balearic Islands and will soon celebrate its fifth edition. This year’s lineup includes bands like Fuck Off, Ingested, Voidwomb, Norsemen, and Barbarian Prophecies. Dioivo commented that “participating in the festival was one of the best opportunities in the history of the band, so we had to take advantage of the occasion to capture the concert in a video now that the festival is about to celebrate its next edition.” They added, “We are immensely grateful to the organizers for including us, and we wish them all the success in the world this November 9th.”

Dioivo has already confirmed several dates for when they will continue performing their album and showcasing the new video. On Friday, September 27th, they will be in Sarria at ACDE Buril, alongside Coruña’s Crystal Somnia and Madrid’s Sound of Broken Souls. On October 18th, they will perform in Madrid at La Trinchera in Vallecas, along with local bands Deriva and Lust. “We’ll soon confirm more gigs in different parts of the peninsula before the end of the year. We’ve never had so many performances in one period, and for now, we plan to keep up the pace,” the band noted.

Dioivo was formed in 2016 in Vigo and has since released multiple records. Their self-titled EP was released the same year the band was created, followed by the album Dioivo II in 2019 and the EP Dioivo III in 2021. Cara os Ceios Incrementes, the album featuring "O Rei," is their second full-length album and was recorded at DS Audio Studio in Vigo by musician Dany Soengas, a member of bands such as Atreides, Lardelúa, and Skydancer. The album also includes other music videos, such as "Paranoia," released last July, and "Ata o final," released in February.

Cara os Ceios Incrementes also stands out for including adaptations of works from Galician literature, which were released alongside their respective music videos. "Que importa que nos craven as cadeas" sets to music the homonymous poem by Darío Xohán Cabana, while "Hai sede na Nova Galicia" does the same with a work by Florencio Delgado Gurriarán, the author honored on Galician Literature Day in 2022. Additionally, Dioivo collaborated with Xosé Luís Méndez Ferrín to create "Retorno a Tagen Ata," a musical adaptation of the author’s iconic novel, with Ferrín himself narrating parts of the track.

In 2023, the band also released a tribute to their hometown football team, Celta de Vigo, in celebration of its centennial. The track, "Por 100 anos máis," was released on September 17th, coinciding with the birthday of legendary Celta player Hermidita, so it celebrated its first anniversary just a few days ago. “It was a very special song for us, as it was dedicated to our team on such a significant occasion, and we were very pleased with the reception it received,” the band said. “Creating music videos is one of the best ways to share your music as widely as possible, and that’s why we’re continuing with this approach with this new release,” they added.

Since its formation, Dioivo has been composed of Daniel Valladares Otero on drums and Jacobo Mouriño Almeida on guitar and vocals, both of whom had previously played together in the thrash metal quartet Rust in Peace, founded in 2011. With their distinctive style of metal, always sung in Galician, they have performed over 70 concerts across Galicia and the Iberian Peninsula, sharing the stage with notable metal bands like Cobra Spell, Serrabulho, Toxikull, Sovengar, and Bloodhunter. They have also been awarded twice in the Xuventude Crea competition organized by the Xunta de Galicia.
