Interviews About Albums: Decimator - 'Til The Enemies Are Gone (2024)

In this new interview, we sat down with the Australian Thrash Metal band Decimator to ask questions about their album, "'Til The Enemies Are Gone".

1. What can you say about this new EP/CD?

It's all the early stuff we played when we first started writing and performing. We wanted to get it down so we can move on to the songs that this 4 piece is supposed to write. The exception is Killdozer which is the first song written as all 4 of us - we felt that should get on there too

2. What is the meaning of the EP/CD name?

Til the Enemies Are All Gone is from the song Legions. And Legions, is of course, about the Roman Army - because the meaning of the band name derives from the punishment of killing one in every ten men if a Roman soldier was allowed to desert. Severe motivation to make sure no one deserted!

3. Which one is the composer of the CD/EP?

Most of the songs were written by me (Lance) and ex-guitarist and co-founder - Mike La Macchia. Though Lance is responsible for most of the lyrics and the themes of each song.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

Tricky one - it changes all the time - as they each have certain parts that appeal in different ways. Whether they're faster and more aggressive - or more melodic.

5. Is there a special message in this EP/CD? If there is what is it?

Each song really stands on its own. And they deal with different things. Decimator formed shortly after I suffered a tragedy and some of the songs reflect that and the thought processes going on with him at the time. 6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share? In the same way that each song appeals to different facets - the lyrics are the same.

7. Which inspirations have been important for this album? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

Like above - life events and experiences definitely played a large part in some songs. Decimator though is not have anything to do with Roman punishment - I figured to use a different meaning - and in the game Warhammer 40,000 there are things called Dreadnoughts, one of which is also called a Decimator, In musical terms Iron Maiden and Megadeth are definitely noticeable - but the often mentioned British punk influence isn't so much an influence as more just what I sound like singing...because although I've lived in Australia for over 20 years, I'm English.

8. Something to add?

We're really excited to have the album out, as it sums up where we've been. And we're really grateful for the support of Wormhole Death, which has allowed us to reach out into the world even further. But we're hard at work on songs that have only ever been performed by the current lineup, and that everyone has had a part in writing. That's a really important thing to me, that the whole band is in everything we do.
