Interviews About Albums: DOUBTING THOMPSON - Lizard Brain Directives (2024)

In this new interview, we sat down with the American Thrash Metal project DOUBTING THOMPSON to ask questions about his album, "Lizard Brain Directives".

1. What can you say about Lizard Brain Directivess?

I’m very happy with this one because of the quality of the songs and the production this time around. It’s a big step up from the previous one.

2. What is the meaning of the EP name?

I know the term lizard brain isn’t really used in the scientific community anymore, but it gets the point across. The songs on the EP concern themselves with mankind’s baser human behaviors - mainly anger and aggression. The songs basically give extreme examples of this behavior which is driven by the amygdala in the human brain. Lizard brain sounds more metal than the amygdala, so there you go.

3. Which one is the composer of the Lizard Brain Directives?

I compose the music and lyrics for all the songs, being that it’s a one-person project.

4. If you had to pick one song, which one would you pick?

Terrible Ted, which is the single.

5. Is there a special message in this EP? If there is what it is?

I wouldn’t say there is a message per se. These songs are observations more than anything.

6. Are there some lyrics that you'd love to share?

Offhand there’s no particular lyric I’m hung up on. I’m happier with the lyrics in general on this EP.

7. Which inspirations have been important for Lizard Brain Directives? Like musically or friends, family, someone you'd love to thank especially?

If you listen to the music, I think my influences are pretty self-evident. Other than that, I’d like to give credit where credit is due. My wife Teresa co-wrote the lyrics on Blood Diamond and the song is definitely better for it! I’d also like to thank Arctic Lyd Studios for mixing Blood Diamond and Terrible Ted because they did a brilliant job and really made those songs pop.

8. Something to add?

I’m very proud of this new project and I hope that listeners enjoy it. It’s great to release a 2nd EP on Sliptrick. My goal is to keep striving for continuous improvement, and in my opinion, I achieved that on Lizard Brain Directives. The next one will be even better!
