Interviews: Barber Q
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Rock band Barber Q from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or did it just come out like
that?
One day, at a barbecue at our former guitarist’s place, we had a brainstorming session on what to
call ourselves. Various names were suggested, but none resonated with our style. Then we
unanimously agreed, “Hey, since we’re at a barbecue, and we all have beards, maybe we should line
up for the barber (barber queue)!” It sounded like “barbecue,” and we decided that name would
stick.
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
Each of us has our own favorite music style, but the core is mainly rock. Every band member brings
something from their preferred genre, and we want to blend that while keeping alternative rock as
the common denominator. It’s also a genre that has the potential to break into the mainstream.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Not really. From the original lineup, only the guitarist and vocalist remained, but before the band
was formed, none of us knew each other. Dawid (the guitarist) joined on the recommendation of the
first guitarist’s friend, we scouted the drummer from local bands, and the bassist initially came in as
a substitute but eventually became a full-fledged member of the band.
4. Each band member’s favorite band?
Matt: Muse
Lukas: Nothing But Thieves
David: Korn
Zavad: Biffy Clyro
Martin: Red Hot Chili Peppers
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
We’re mainly inspired by life, personal experiences, or sometimes taboo topics that aren’t often
addressed in songs. We want to sing about things that affect most people, sometimes treading on
thin ice. We’re also inspired by unique situations that often leave us in awe, and we end up thinking
about them for a long time, eventually leading us to write a song about them.
6. Where was your last gig?
Krakatoa - Aberdeen
7. Where would you like to perform?
Our immediate goal is definitely to fill King Tuts in Glasgow! However, the prospect of playing at
outdoor festivals is something we’d love to achieve. But if we’re talking about the biggest dream, it
would be to fill a stadium!
8. Whom would you like to collaborate with?
Each of us dreams of featuring or at least supporting our idols. Recently, a fantastic band called
Highly Suspect caught our attention; we think the sound of our guitars would blend perfectly, and
the vocals would create great harmonies!
9. Whom would you not collaborate with?
At the moment, we’re not picky. Any form of collaboration gives us greater exposure to a new
fanbase.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to
beat it?
We’ve never had stage fright because we love doing this! Each of us feels immense excitement
playing live and entertaining people! Any tips for beginners? Just think that people want to hear you,
and they come to escape the problems of everyday life. The only thing they want is the energy you
can give them! Have fun with the music!
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
We’d definitely repeat our answer with the bands we listed as our favorites. Each of us agrees that
we’ve spent countless hours listening to their discographies from A to Z, discovering new sounds
each time. That’s the beauty of music!
12. What’s the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
From the band’s perspective, there were a few strange things that would embarrass even a rock-and-roll star, but one of the weirdest yet coolest things (because weird doesn’t mean bad!) was
when a couple who met at one of our concerts got engaged. It happened on our stage during a break
between songs! (P.S. We hope you’re still together!)
13. What do you think of your fans?
They are people who have supported us in our career from the very beginning. They’re with us at
every concert, buy our merch, support us in any way they can, and most importantly, they share
every post, comment, and help make our dreams come true!
14. What do you think of our site?
The site is very readable, a bit dark, but it encourages reading interviews. We won’t hide that we
once browsed your site and shyly dreamed of being featured on it.
15. Something to add?
We’re really not picky, but maybe you could add a playlist with your favorite tracks so we can get to
know your inspirations too. Thank you very much for the interview!
