Interviews: Buried In Bermuda
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Alternative Rock band Buried In Bermuda from the UK. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you planned it or did it just come out like that?
Kyle: “It just came out like it, it took some convincing for the other members of the band to agree on but I was so sure about it... I don't know why. I think there's some kind of symbolism and ambiguity behind it that provokes thought. Or that's what I like to believe anyway.”
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
K: “We cover a few subgenres within rock and metal, but I think it's purely due to writing style and that spur of the moment and not wanting to be necessarily pigeon holed.. We're probably just indecisive.”
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Gilles: “Alex and George went to school together, but Kyle and I were complete strangers about 4 years ago who agreed to meet to practice a few covers (badly) with one of Kyle’s workmates (our original drummer!)”
4. Each band member's favorite band?
G: Alter Bridge, Pantera, Van Halen and Avenged Sevenfold
K: “depends what mood I'm in!”
A: Haken
Ge: Thrice
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
K: “It's a spur-of-the-moment thing for me, usually I'll be about to go to sleep and a riff idea or lyric gets stuck in my head then I have to run to the guitar and get a rough recording of it so I don't forget.”
Ge: “I take inspiration from everything. I listen to lots of music in all sorts of genres, but I also feel inspired often by nature and by my own life experiences”.
6. Where was your last gig?
Ge: “We played Bomba in Exeter on a Saturday night back in September, and it was an amazing night!”
7. Where would you like to play?
G: “In our hometown of Bristol, we would love to play at SWX, but in terms of festivals, we would love to play at Download or Bloodstock now that our music is becoming heavier”.
Ge: “I'd really like to play at my old high school. Had it not been for my music teacher at the time I might never have found the courage to pursue music, so I'd like to be able to show him that I've been putting the work in since leaving and raise some money for the school's music department”.
8. Who would you like to support?
G: “It would blow our minds to support bands such as Alter Bridge, Bullet For My Valentine, or The Warning”.
9. Who not?
G: “Not sure we would decline any offer if it meant playing to a new crowd and showing them what we are about - but if pressed for an answer, we would decline a gig with Lostprophets….”.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
G: “I almost had a full-on panic attack at my first-ever gig a few years ago, but I went for a walk alone after the soundcheck to clear my head, had a pint, and I recovered just in time!”
A: “I don’t get stage fright, because I’m not a pussy…”
K: “I've heard if you try to jump around and be active before playing you can get rid of excess adrenaline that's built up. I have not tried it myself but apparently, it helps!“
Ge: “I used to suffer from terrible stage fright. I still struggle without an instrument, which puts something physically between me and the audience. Besides that, I just learned that any nerves could be channeled into energy, so that's why I always play with everything I've got”.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
G: In terms of vocals, I am constantly inspired by Myles Kennedy from Alter Bridge, whilst my guitar idols are Van Halen, Synyster Gates, John Petrucci, and Dimebag”.
Ge: “The bands I've probably spent the most time consciously taking notes from are Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rise Against, and The Police”.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
G: “I couldn’t possibly reveal it here…haha!”
Ge: “I was once asked to sign a KFC bargain bucket helmet, the guy then donned it and took to the stage to plug our merchandise!”
13. What do you think of your fans?
Ge: “We love our fans. They show us unwavering support by turning out for each and every gig, buying merch, and we wouldn't be anywhere without them”.
14. What do you think of our site?
Ge: “I think it's a great way to find bands you might never have found otherwise. You're doing the scene a service”
