Interviews: Dark Sky

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Heavy Metal band Dark Sky from Germany. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE!

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or come out just like that?

Well, it was actually only planned by our first guitarist and co-founder of the band. He came into the rehearsal room and announced that the band should be called DARK SKY and nobody dared to contradict him because he was the most accomplished musician in the band at the time. That's how it was, ha, ha, ha.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

When we started playing our own songs, bands like Judas Priest, AC/DC, the Scorpions and Iron Maiden were really popular with us and of course we wanted to sound like our idols. The genre changed over the years, of course, and hard rock eventually became more like melodic metal.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

When DARK SKY was formed, four of the band members went to the same school. We met the fifth band member through an ad. He came into the rehearsal room one evening and said: "Hey, I'm your singer!" He was a 30-year-old, very self-confident guy from England who could sing fantastically, but was the only one over 18 :-)

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Steff, drums: Electric Callboy

Francesco, bass: Epica

Harold, keyboards: Saga

Kevin, guitar: Trivium

Frank, vocals: Europe

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

First of all, the motivation was to write songs ourselves that should sound like those of our idols. Later, it was experiences or things that preoccupied us that motivated us to write songs about different topics. And sometimes it's just cool ideas that come to mind and that you then put together to make a song.

6. Where was your last gig?

Most recently we headlined for two days at the Steinmocker Open Air festival in the north of Germany.

7. Where would you like to act?

We would love to play at the biggest metal festival in Germany next year - Wacken! And we would love to play a little tour in Asia. But there are still blank spots for us in Europe and America would also be a destination for a tour.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Anyone who is well-known, but for our genre a band like Bon Jovi would be great. Although it would actually be exciting to be on the road with an up-coming young band like Kissin Dynamite.

9. Whom not?

Well, that's a dangerous question :-) But concerts with bands that attract a completely different audience than DARK SKY obviously carry the risk that you as a musician will be rejected - you don't necessarily need that.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

I get nervous before every show and it disappears the moment I jump on stage and the show starts. I think a good way to focus on the performance is to have certain rituals before the concert that always follow the same pattern and put you in the right flow.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

At first, it was bands like AC/DC, KISS, Bon Jovi, or the Scorpions, but now there are also bands from other genres, such as power metal or symphonic metal, like Powerwolf or Nightwish.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

For heaven's sake, I can't possibly say that here! But there have been some crazy things...

13. What do you think of your fans?

Well, they are really great and no matter how stressful it was before the concert, seeing the audience in front of the stage and seeing their happy faces makes up for everything.

14. What do you think of our site?

You really have an incredible amount of information about metal bands and you also shed light on the underground. The layout of your site is very professional and clear. You really have a strong magazine going.

15. Something to add?

Thanks for the questions and hopefully we'll see each other at a festival or on tour somewhere. Dear readers, check out our music videos and listen to our latest album "Signs Of The Time"!
