Interviews: Final Thirteen
On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Rock band Final Thirteen from Ireland. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.
1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?
It’s an in-band joke. Haha. We had too many guitarists come and go, and they were all
egotistical maniacs. It was before J.D. stepped up from bass and we decided to remain a
trio. No, it definitely wasn’t planned, it just came out like that. There may not have been
twelve, but we say, “Fuck the first twelve - Final Thirteen!”
2. Why did you want to play this genre?
We love metal, rock, and indie music, we have to play this genre. It’s just who we are.
3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?
Haha, no actually. Not entirely. I kinda knew J.D. from afar, J.D. & Doobes had done boxing
training at the same gym previously, and Doobes & I never knew each other from Adam.
4. Each band member's favourite band?
Ax: My favourite band fluctuates depending on my mood. I look to my favourite artists for
different moods, different feelings, and, more often than not, different types of strength. J.D.’s is Oasis
& Doobes’ is Avenged Sevenfold for sure.
5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?
Life for sure. It can kick you in the ass, and as musicians, you just need an outlet. I feel we
express what we are going through naturally so that others can have an outlet in music where
they can’t process or define how they feel.
6. Where was your last gig?
Our last gig was at HMV Belfast, it was awesome. Lots of people turned out to see us, and we were thrilled to see the support we got. We also gained a whole lot of new fans after that.
7. Where would you like to act?
We would like to play all the major festivals. The festival circuit is where it’s at for us as a band.
There’s a sense of freedom that festivals have, that we want to play in, have that time with the
crowd and really take us all away somewhere.
8. Whom would you like to feature with?
Ah, that’s a tough one, cause we love collaboration in music, it’s something we admire and
strive towards. Bicep would be the kewl one for sure.
9. Whom not?
Taylor Swift, even though Ax is a bit of a swifty, Ed Sheeran, & Coldplay, even though J.D. is
a big Coldplay fan.
10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?
Stage fright can be a big issue for anybody, as a professional Boxer (J.D.) who had no
problem fighting in front of TV cameras and large crowds, you would expect I would be the last
person to suffer from stage fright. However, for the first 6-12 months of performing on stage with
music, some nights I completely buckled in fear onstage. There was just something about being
on a stage with a guitar and a microphone that left me feeling quite vulnerable, and it took a lot
of time and confidence building for me to get to where I am today.
11. What bands have inspired you the most?
So this is a bunch of our top inspirations collectively: Oasis; Ghost; Lacuna Coil; Limp Bizkit;
Avenged Sevenfold; The Killers; George Michael; & Ozzy.
12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?
I don’t think we’ve been asked for anything weird yet, our fans so far have been lovely and
most just ask for a hug.
13. What do you think of your fans?
We absolutely love each and every last one of them, and just so grateful. So yeah, they’re
all absolutely awesome.
14. What do you think of our site?
It’s pretty sick, we think what you do is so kewl and it’s amazing to see such a great
community you have built.
15. Something to add?
Fuck the first twelve, FINAL THIRTEEN!
