Interviews: NEO

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Rock band NEO from Colombia. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or did it come out just like that?

NEO represents a "new" approach to rock. It wasn't a planned acronym, but rather a reflection of our desire to bring back classic rock sounds with a fresh, contemporary style. Although it was sort of like, a lucky strike thanks to our first release, called "Neo Retro". Check it out btw

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

We play this genre because of our shared passion for classic rock, strong emotions, and authenticity linked to it. Aiming to the intensity of music, connecting our audience through our lyrics.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Yes, NEO members were united through university bands, sharing a love for art, which eventually led to the formation of this project.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

We collectively draw inspiration from iconic groups like Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, and Soda Estéreo, which have greatly influenced our musical style. On the other hand, Sara's, (singer) favorite is Guns And Roses, Leo's (drummer) and Sebastian's (Bass player) is Soda Stereo, Javier's (guitar) is Queen, and Mario's (guitar) is Black Sabbath or Oasis.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

We are inspired by a range of experiences and emotions, the same we all feel as human beings. Our aim is to evoke feelings and memories in our audience through our lyrics, sure, but mainly through riffs, fills, and the feel we give into and out of our instruments.

6. Where was your last gig?

Our last gig was in Bogotá, where we performed for our fans in the 100 years of Teatro Faenza, featuring lots of Orchestral musicians from Universidad Central and Universidad Los Andes. About 200 people assistance.

7. Where would you like to act?

Locally, We'd like to have a stage in Rock al parque, Cordillera or Stéreo Picnic soon. Internationally, Latam is absolutely a dream, Lollapalooza, Cosquín Rock, Viña del Mar anyway, there are plenty of stages we'd love to be part of.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Latin American rock, we might say, although big and representative, has been overshadowed by other sounds, NEO is open to sharing the stage with any other artists, pro rock. It's all about sharing music together, growing in the industry together, and getting our music to more audiences together. But of course, one's dream is to perform with our favorite musicians.

9. Whom not?

As long as we can align musically, no matter the artist.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Yes, stage fright is something many musicians experience. A tip for beginners is to focus on the music and connect with your bandmates, which can help ease nerves. Practice is also nerve-calming.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Our biggest inspirations come from classic rock bands of the '70s and '80s, especially Led Zeppelin and Nirvana, as well as the progressive sounds of the era.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

We haven't had many unusual requests, some ask for Javier's only fans page. Mario usually gets food for free, other than that we only receive love. Thanks btw 

13. What do you think of your fans?

We think our fans are "una chimba" as we say in Colombia, meaning pretty cool! Their support and passion for our music motivate us to create and perform even more. Thanks

We appreciate platforms that promote music and help connect artists with audiences. It’s important for us to reach as many listeners as possible. Without platforms like yours, our music might be lost in the internet's infinite universe.
