Interviews: Nest Of Plagues

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Metal band Nest Of Plagues from Hungary. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or come out just like that?

Dani: There is an album from Decapitated called Blood Mantra, and there is a song called ‘Nest’ on it which we really loved. I liked the images of rats and plague so I know I wanted something like that. Eventually, Máté said we should use the ‘Plague Doctors’ from history as an image for the band. And that’s it, we put together different words and pictures we liked.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Dani: Originally we wanted to play fast and a bit technical music like a lot of bands I guess. For us there was a lot of inspiration from Lamb of God, Decapitated, Gojira and Thy Art is Murder. But over time we started to make better-structured songs, where I could play with the vocals a lot more. I love to play metal and genres that are heavy but melodic because I can communicate my emotions better in this type of music.

Máté: We started the band in an era when the deathcore and the metalcore scene was rising in Hungary. We just followed it and tried to mix it with some older or classic metal elements like Lamb of God or Machine Head. But nowadays we would like to open up some other genres and you can listen to it on our album ‘Hellsolation’.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Evi: I’ve gotten to know the guys around 2018-2019 when we were touring together with my previous band. At some point, I started to mock them that they sound pretty shitty with only one guitar, and I would join as a second guitarist if they would ask me. It took 1,5 years to finally ask but I was happy to join as I loved their music.

Dani: I knew Máté from our previous band, and later we invited Balázs who was my high school classmate to play drums with us.

4. Each band member's favorite band?

Evi: I don’t really have one favorite band and it’s always a surprise for me when someone could answer this question in an instant. It always changes what I like and what I listen to, I try to keep up with the new releases and new bands, but of course, I have some old classics that I’d never get bored of like Lamb of God, Bring Me The Horizon, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, While She Sleeps, Foo Fighters, Nine Inch Nails, Rammstein, Green Day, Motley Crue, Marilyn Manson, etc.

Máté: Can't get tired of Linkin Park, Lamb of God, Gojira, In Flames, Bring Me The Horizon, Northlane, Architects, Limp Bizkit, and maybe Nightwish. They are evergreen for me. But I am listening to other music genres and bands like Twenty One Pilots, Awolnation, Kite, Vök, Low Roar, etc.

Dani: Machine Head is my all-time favorite band. Other than that I always listen to a lot of different kinds of music, but I like to keep up with the deathcore genre with bands like Ingested, Lorna Shore Enterprise Earth, etc.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Evi: Life. Pain. Everything.

Máté: Mixed. Inspiration can come from the outside like listening to new, fresh music that I like and I would like to write something similar. Or it can come from the inside like something important happens to me in my life and I would like to put my experience into a song to understand what actually happened. So songwriting for me is kinda of processing the experiences too.

Dani: I always write lyrics from my mind and what’s in my head. These are mainly personal experiences but I think a lot of other people also experienced it, they just have a difficult time talking about it. With this, I want to open up channels so people who suffered the same things could better reach each other, and talk more about their feelings. Also, we want to show there is a lot more color and joy in this world even though it is full of darkness and anger.

6. Where was your last gig?

Evi: We’re currently on a European tour as a guest of Orphaned Land. Yesterday’s show was in Leipzig, Hellraiser.

7. Where would you like to act?

Evi: It is one of my biggest dreams to play at huge festivals such as 70000 Tons, Hellfest, Download, Wacken, Rock am Ring, Novarock, and so on.

Máté: US, Asia, Australia, etc, any new place where I’ve never been before.

Dani: Everywhere.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

Evi: For our new album Hellsolation, we were thinking about asking Fronzilla from Attila to feature in one of the songs. Finally, we decided that we won’t do it but Fronz is one of the vocalists that we’d be happy to do a collab song with. I think it would be awesome to feature Will Ramos from Lorna Shore, Andy Cizek from Monuments, or Courtney LaPlante from Spiritbox.

9. Whom not?

Evi: I don’t think there’s anyone specifically who we hate this much.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

Evi: I always suffer from it when we’ve played a long time ago, if we have new songs that we’ve never played live before or if I didn’t practice enough, so this feeling always comes from a kind of uncertainty. You can only beat it with lots of practice and experience, so if you do it again and again in spite of this feeling, suddenly it will go away, and you’ll develop a routine. In the meantime, you just have to be confident enough.

Dani: Honestly I feel the safest on stage because back when I had difficult panic attacks I thought something bad was going to happen to me at the worst possible time. Then I realized if something bad happened to me on stage everyone would see that and quickly run to my aid, so after that, I no longer had stage fright, but of course, I still get excited before a show sometimes.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Máté: Same as I mentioned in the favorite band question.

Dani: Me too as I mentioned above.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Evi: Someone once asked if I would cut a strand of my hair for him...

13. What do you think of your fans?

Evi: We have more and more superfans who always come to our shows and come to talk to us after. With some of them, we’ve already become friends because we’ve met a hundred times. They are the ones who always support us, share our music, buy all the merch, and come to our music video shoots to help, so we’re eternally grateful for them. I think the main goal for all musicians is to find these people who like what they do and support them.

14. What do you think of our site?

Evi: I think it’s awesome that you write about underground bands and support the metal community. Thank you for that!

15. Something to add?

Evi: Listen to our new album Hellsolation!!

Dani: It can be a really isolating feeling going through a mental disorder, but there really is help out there. It is a cliché of course, but what they forget to tell you is that you have to ask for help to get it, and that is the most difficult part of the recovery process.
