Interviews: No Kings Allowed

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Symphonic Metalcore band No Kings Allowed from The Netherlands. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, did you plan it or come out just like that?

Red: It came from the following idea: We wanted to be in a where everybody is treated as equals. So no ‘Kings’ who determine everything. Besides that, we wanted a band name that could be easily shorted down like: NKA.

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

White: I joined the band at a later stage but always had a very big love for the harder styles in metal, apart from that I like to add some ‘catchyness’ to the songs.

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Red: No. Only me (Red) and (Green) knew each other. Gold was introduced to us via Tik Tok, then Blue joined (they knew each other) and Blue introduced us to White. We connected with Orange through the internet as well.

4. Each band member's favourite band?

White: Slipknot

Red: It’s so hard to say because it shifts from time to time. But currently Orbit Culture and Shadow of Intent.

Blue: Rage Against The Machine

Green: As I Lay Dying

Orange: Pretty hard to say because picking a favourite band is like picking a favourite child. Also just too hard and depends on my mood.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

White: I mainly write songs based on what I feel in certain situations, how I could have felt or how I think it would feel. But mostly in the extreme senses.

Green: I listen to a lot of the bands. So whenever I listen to a certain band I automatically start writing riffs kind of in their style and combine it with mine. It’s a refreshing way also to learn new techniques.

Red: All different kinds of songs and genres I listen to. Also my mood.

6. Where was your last gig?

Red: With NKA we haven’t done any yet. 20 December will be our debut.

Orange: For me personally in Dordrecht (Netherlands)

7. Where would you like to act?

White: Wacken Open Air

Green: Graspop Metal Meeting

Red: Graspop Metal Meeting

Orange: I think a tour through South America would be really awesome due to audiences being extra wild and crazy at shows.

8. Whom would you like to feature with?

White: Bryan Garris from Knocked Loose

Red: Chris Wiseman or Ben Duerr from Shadow of Intent.

Orange: Anyone who is interested in our music.

Green: Will Ramos from Lorna Shore.

9. Whom not?

Orange: Anyone who is a dick.

10. Have any of you ever suffered from stage fright? Any tips for beginners on how to beat that?

White: Some of us have. Just remember that you’re the one standing there and ‘having the balls’ to go out and perform. But apart from that, usually, a pint of beer (or two) might help a bit to chill the nerves.

Orange: No I haven't really, Being on stage to feels like being home. For the ones who do suffer from stagefright, I can only say that confidence is key

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

White: Slipknot, Linkin Park, I Prevail

Orange: I remember hearing bands like Slipknot, Slayer, Lamb Of God, etc. for the first time which also was the first time I heard double bass drumming and thought: Wow, This is awesome I want to be able to do that. Before I watched concert videos of big bands like Metallica, Rammstein, Limp Bizkit, etc. and loved watching those shows from spectacular showmanship all the way when hearing such a massive crowd sing back words to the artists. It was then I knew what I wanted to do later.

Red: Slipknot, Lamb of God, Trivium, As I Lay Dying and last but not least Parkway Drive.

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

White: not really a question that a fan asked me, but once I was performing and a random woman tried to pull my pants down. Pretty weird.

Orange: Nothing really crazy yet. I'm actually quite new to this band

13. What do you think of your fans?

White: Without fans, you’re nothing as a musician. So you have to cherish your fans and love them. Everybody who supports us deserves that love.

Red: For me the biggest motivation is the fans. To inspire, connect and enjoy our music together. That is also the main reason why we are so eager to start performing!

Orange: I love them of course. We get so much support from them and feel like it's a really strong community. I can't wait to play live for them to show them how grateful I am to have such great fans.

14. What do you think of our site?

White: Never heard of it, sorry.

Red: I never heard about you guys either up till now. The site looks cool and I read some articles about other bands. Very interesting and also nice to know that there is a worldwide metal community and discover new artists!

15. Something to add?

Red: Thanks for having us in this interview!
