Interviews: Øresund Space Collective

On this new occasion, we had the opportunity to interview the Space Rock band Øresund Space Collective from Denmark. Check out the interview and follow the band on their FACEBOOK PAGE.

1. Where did you get the idea for the band name, you plan it or come out just like that?

Dr Space: Øresund Space Collective came about because the band was based in Copenhagen and Malmö, Sweden and we used to cross the Øresund on the bridge to play music. Also, the band was not a set group of people but more of a collective of like-minded jammers...

2. Why did you want to play this genre?

Dr Space: Space Rock is my favourite kind of music. Pink Floyd, Hawkwind... Spaced out music that just transports you to another place.. Jiri- It is easy because you do not have to remember the songs!

3. Did you know each other before the band was formed?

Dr Space: YES.. I was friends with the guys in Mantric Muse (DK) and BLand Bladen (SE) before we all started to jam together. This was just the start and most of the 113 musicians that have played in the collective have come from friendships in music...

4. Each band member's favourite band?

Dr Space: Black Sabbath.

Jiri: At the moment, Nubiyan Twist.

5. Who or what inspires you to write songs?

Dr Space: The world around me and the other musicians that I play with.

6. Where was your last gig?

Dr Space: My last gig was in Portugal at the Unifant Festival but that was not with my main band, Øresund Space Collective. My last gig with ØSC was in Hamburg, Germany.

7. Where would you like to perform?

Dr Space: It would be a dream for me to play a concert in Japan. I still hope I can make it happen one day.

8. Whom would you like to perform with?

Dr Space: Like on a tour or concert. Ozric Tentacles or Hawkwind would be amazing but also Widespread Panic!

9. Whom not?

Dr Space: No one political or right-wing...

10. Any of you has ever suffered from stage fright? Any tip for beginners on how to beat that?

Dr Space: No... I have done a lot of public speaking so the stage is fine for me. If I have advice it would be to just let go and do what you are good at and rock like hell...

Jiri: Getting a little nervous is good. It gets you a bit excited. This is a good thing.

11. What bands have inspired you the most?

Dr Space: Alien Planetscapes, Pink Floyd, Hawkwind, Ozric Tentacles, Tangerine Dream. Jiri- The Wailers, Pink Floyd, Dizzy Miss Lizzy, Motorpsycho...

12. What's the weirdest thing a fan has ever asked you for?

Dr Space: A signed patch cable from my modular synthesizer!!

Jiri: Where is the secret concert??? There was a rumour in Las Vegas but it never really was happening.

13. What do you think of your fans?

Dr Space: Our fans are awesome. Very dedicated, especially in Germany! I love them.

14. What do you think of our site?

Dr Space: Well organized, with some heavy bands!!!

15. Something to add?

Dr Space: We had our 44th album, Orgone Unicorn out in July this year. The next studio album, Alotta hella down in Estrella, will be out in March next year. We have a DVD from the Crescendo Festival in France 2022 coming out in October. In December, we should have the album Relaxing in the Himalayas on vinyl. It was previously a Bandcamp subscriber CD. We will also have a 20th-anniversary concert in Copenhagen, Denmark on April 11-12th. This is going to be very special with lots of old members and a killer light show, special merch and poster display etc...

Thanks for letting us talk a bit and for your fans that like their space rock a bit heavier they should check out our albums The Black Tomato, Sleeping with the Sunworm and our space doom epic, Ode to a Black Hole!!! Peace...
