Track By Tracks: DECEIVETH - Cords (2024)
1. I Am The Healer:
The Cords EP has an underlying theme: etheric cords that connect us to the past. Each interaction leaves its energetic mark. Healer is the opening track and considers the cutting and clearing of these cords, though some are deeply burrowed as described in the lyrics: “Remove the claw, but the nails remain to infect again and again.” This song gives an initial nod to Streetcleaner as the project’s inspiration, and then quickly becomes its own entity.
2. Into the Arms of Devils:
A tale of organized religion, whatever your choice of poison is, creating guilt, fear and misery… draining you of vital life force in a vampiric fashion. It’s best to run straight to the arms of devils and banish the fading light forever, while there’s still time.
3. Poisoner:
This track takes an additional step back in time and is a glorified Skinny Puppy-esque banger with strong metallic elements in DECIEVETH fashion. I used a Kawai R-100 drum machine from 1987 and all sorts of harmonizers to make this an uneasy listen. Lyrically, Poisoner ponders obsession and the energies of rumination as a palpable and subtle, yet detectable force targeted towards another.
4. Tendrils of a Saint:
An outro and closing thought. The concept of a saint comes up repeatedly throughout this EP. In particular, the reference to St. Michael: an angel of protection with a sword of light. The importance here is to consider the power of this archetype - these angels that predate Christianity and now carry all the baggage of bigotry. How can they be of service to us; what occult meaning is far beneath the surface?
