Behind The Tracks: Absolutism - Devious Ontogeny (Single) (2024)
“Devious Ontogeny” is the continuation of the story of the dystopic space travel of a lost Noah's ark (the Absolutism) carrying what is left of humanity. In our previous album ¨Asynchronous¨ we addressed issues such as fear of what we don´t understand, and our attempts to make sense of our world, a sort of exploration of the darkness in us all to the utmost limits of freedom and chaos.
¨Devious Ontogeny¨ continues our debate on the moral contradictions of modern societies, this time about the ¨burn-out¨, exhaustion and despair. We make use of the story of the Odyssey of the ¨Absolutism¨, trying to reach Cygnus X1 as a new place for settling what is left of humanity. This time, after centuries of space travel the crew is about to surrender to exhaustion, emptiness, and despair, raising the issue of ¨burn-out¨ as the sickness of a society that suffers from excessive positivity, a yes-we-can world in which nothing is impossible, a world that requires people to strive to the point of self-destruction.
Musically, the band added the Tuvan-Mongol throat singing technique (something that our frontman Emre has been investigating for years), as well as a combination of different styles of extreme metal with some dissonant elements. We have integrated all those things that we enjoy from our favorite acts, such as Voivod and their storytelling and progressions, the elegant viciousness of early Brutal Truth, or the intricate riffing of Myrkskog and Suffocation.
Regarding the video, we found the work of Nick Luchkiv (selburning studio) very close to the concept we wanted for this album on an artistic level, with his cyberpunk and virtual reality aesthetics. The original video was called Divisor.
Devious Ontogeny was recorded by Rick Murillo at SoloSound (El Paso, TX), and mixed/mastered by Rubén Rodriguez at Neburzone Studios (Spain).
